You will apply systems engineering principles throughout the lifecycle (requirements, architecture, integration, verification & validation, sustainment). This position resides in the Support Services & Isolated Environments group in the Research Computing division of the Information Technology Services Directorate at Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL).

    • Monitor and optimize system performance, ensuring uptime and reliability.
    • Perform regular system updates, patches, and backups.
    • STIG checking and systems compliance.
  • Virtualization & Storage:
    • Implement and support Citrix virtualized environments.
    • Manage storage solutions relevant to Windows environments, ensuring data integrity and availability.
  • Security & Compliance:
    • Implement and maintain security best practices.
    • Ensure compliance with organizational policies and standards.
  • Customer Service & Support:
    • Provide advanced support and troubleshooting.
    • Collaborate with stakeholders to resolve technical issues and provide recommendations for system improvements.
    • Deliver high-quality customer service, both internally and externally.
  • Project Management & Documentation:
    • Create and maintain comprehensive documentation for all system configurations, processes, and procedures.
    • Prioritize and manage multiple tasks and projects efficiently.
    • Update and maintain all documentation as required
    • Other duties as assigned or required

An overall combination of equivalent education and experience may be considered.
  • Active DOE Q, active DOD Top Secret, or active DOD TS/SCI clearance is required for consideration.

  • Familiarity with NSS federal computer systems and compliance standards is a plus.
  • Experience with scripting and automation (e.g., PowerShell).
  • Experience with STIG hardening
  • Knowledge of networking design and support
  • Experience in SANs: preferred experience NetApp is desired.
  • Experience with building and managing Citrix and VMware virtualization platforms.
  • Excellent time management, problem-solving, and customer service skills
Special Requirements

All employees must also be able to obtain and maintain a federal Personal Identity Verification (PIV) card as mandated by Homeland Security Presidential Directive 12 (HSPD-12) and Department of Energy (DOE) Order 473.1A, which requires a favorable post-employment background investigation.
