Job summary

The City of Burlington invites applications for a Senior Power Plant Operator role at the McNeil Generating Station. Candidates should have six years of power plant experience (five in operations), strong math and technical skills, and be able to work rotating shifts.

Qualifications

• Six years of relevant experience in power plant operations.
• Associate's degree or high school diploma with four years vocational/technical training.
• Ability to adapt to rotating shift schedule.
• Passing a pulmonary function test and respirator use preferred.
• Strong knowledge of combustion, hydraulics, electricity and thermodynamics.

Responsibilities

• Operate Winooski One hydro and McNeil Generating Stations safely and efficiently.
• Monitor control systems and dispatch personnel for corrective action.
• Ensure compliance with water and air quality permits and regulations.
• Supervise start-up/shutdown of station operations and report statuses.
• Train and evaluate shift personnel; supervise operators and yard workers.
