Purpose

To provide journey level technical painting and related skills in the performance of work required for the maintenance, repair, and operation of the assigned residential facilities maintenance zone.

Responsibilities

Provide journey level work for painting and carpentry repairs. Knowledgeable with painting techniques, products and the application to various surface materials with the use of brush, roller, airless, HVLP, and spray guns. Knowledgeable in applying stain and varnish for new and refinish of existing stained and varnished surfaces.

Repair, tape, texture, and float drywall. Repair and apply acoustic finishes. Perform and assist other craft work when directed or workload requires. Repair and install sheetrock, siding, paneling, lath, and plaster.

Analyze computer-generated work orders and prioritize repairs. Use troubleshooting and diagnostic techniques to identify paint and related materials as well as maintain painting equipment. Charge out all material and account for all inventory used and return unused back into the inventory system.

Drive a UT vehicle to work site, transporting equipment and supplies as needed to perform routine and preventive maintenance, and/or repairs.

Demonstrate excellent interpersonal communication and customer service skills. Communicate with supervisor, staff, and student residents regarding needed repairs and work order status. Follow through with written and oral instructions from supervisor.

Complete and submit paperwork in an accurate and timely manner. Ensure that all safety protocols are followed and ensure to properly report any unsafe condition and fill out the required report of injury form if injured.

Promote professional development of self and all staff to improve knowledge and work skills through ongoing training and workshops.

Required Qualifications

High School Diploma or GED

At least 5 years of building construction, mechanical, work-related or utilities trade specified with 3 years of journey level training.

Knowledge and use of tools and equipment common to the trades specified.

Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.

Preferred Qualifications

More than five (5) years of journey level experience in the painting trade.

More than five (5) years of experience or journey level experience in the following: drywall, plaster, small carpentry.

Commercial and remodeling experience.

Experience in maintenance and repair of resident rooms and apartments.

Demonstrated excellent interpersonal communication skills.

Demonstrated ability to receive, respond, and follow through with written and verbal work-related instructions from supervisors, and co-workers.

Driving Required

This job requires a class "C" operator's driver's license. The applicant selected must provide a current three year driving record from the current state of residence. If not currently a Texas resident, a Texas driver's license must be obtained within 30 days of becoming a Texas resident. Employees who are required to have a CDL are subject to drug and alcohol testing (pre-employment, post-accident, reasonable suspicion, random, return-to-duty, and follow-up drug and alcohol testing).
