Job description

Job Overview

Location: Waukegan, IL 60085. Salary: $33.00 – $50.00 hourly. Shift: 1st Shift. Category: Maintenance.

Reports To: Maintenance Manager.

Responsibilities

• Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on a variety of manufacturing equipment to ensure optimal performance and minimal downtime.
• Troubleshoot and repair mechanical systems, including liquid filling equipment, bearings, gears, sprockets, precision alignments, and perform fabrication welding as needed.
• Maintain and repair hydraulic and pneumatic systems, including pumps, cylinders, valves, and associated mounting equipment.
• Diagnose equipment failures, conduct root‑cause analysis, and execute preventive and predictive maintenance strategies.
• Follow manufacturer manuals, blueprints, schematics, and work instructions to guide repairs and installations.
• Install, align, and test new machinery and equipment.
• Collaborate with production and engineering teams to improve equipment reliability and support continuous improvement initiatives.
• Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities using CMMS or other tracking systems.
• Ensure compliance with safety standards and company policies.
• Provide support during audits by ensuring equipment documentation and maintenance records are up to date.
• Assist in training junior maintenance staff and sharing technical knowledge across departments.

Qualifications

Education

• High School Diploma or G.E.D required.
• Technical certification or associate degree preferred.

Experience

• 3–5 years of hands‑on experience in a multi‑craft maintenance role within a manufacturing environment.
• Comprehensive knowledge of mechanical systems, electrical wiring, PLCs, hydraulics, and pneumatics.
• Experience with automated equipment, including robotics and PLC‑controlled machinery, is highly desirable.
• Proven ability to troubleshoot and repair a wide range of production equipment, such as motors, Viking mechanical pumps, ARO diaphragm pumps, conveyors, compressors, chillers, liquid filling machines, automatic cappers, and labelers.
• Electrical expertise, including reading schematics, wiring control circuits, working with 480V 3‑phase systems, PLCs (Allen Bradley), VFDs, and understanding basic electrical code compliance.
• Ability to use hand and power tools, diagnostic equipment, and precision measuring instruments.
• Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills with the ability to diagnose issues quickly and effectively.
• Demonstrated ability to work independently, collaborate across departments, and provide guidance or training to junior maintenance staff.

• Familiarity with CMMS systems and maintenance documentation.

Physical Capabilities

• Strength: Must be able to regularly lift 55 lbs.
• Movement: Must be able to stand / walk for an entire eight‑hour shift. Occasional bending, crouching, and crawling.
• Hearing: Must be able to hear and understand work direction in a loud, distracting environment.
• Vision: Must be able to judge distance, identify details, and view computer screen regularly.
