Job summary

Aalo Atomics, based in Austin, TX, seeks a Senior Multi-craft Maintenance Technician to own reliability and uptime of critical building and manufacturing systems. You will troubleshoot electrical and mechanical equipment, drive preventive maintenance, mentor others, and act as the senior technical authority on the floor in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.

The role requires 7+ years of experience, strong knowledge of CNC equipment and automated systems, and the ability to read schematics

About the role

As a Multi-craft Maintenance Technician at Aalo Atomics, you will own the reliability, uptime, and continuous improvement of the critical building and manufacturing systems that keep our factory producing. You will troubleshoot and maintain a broad range of electrical and mechanical systems, lead preventive and predictive maintenance programs, and serve as the senior technical authority on the floor for facilities issues. This is a hands‑on, senior‑level role for an experienced generalist with deep electrical and mechanical expertise who thrives in a fast‑moving manufacturing environment.

Our multi‑craft maintenance program evaluates electrical and mechanical proficiency separately and assigns a skill level in each discipline. Those levels form a combined assessment of each technician's overall skill set. This approach recognizes both technical depth and breadth, guides targeted training and cross‑training, and supports continued development and career growth across both crafts.

What you’ll do

• Troubleshoot, repair, and maintain CNC equipment, waterjets, automated production equipment, and the building systems that support factory operations. Diagnose electrical and mechanical failures across motors, drives, controls, pumps, bearings, power transmission equipment, and hydraulic and pneumatic systems.
• Develop, execute, and improve preventive and predictive maintenance programs using equipment condition, failure history, and manufacturer recommendations to prioritize work.
• Respond to equipment breakdowns, coordinate recovery with Production and Engineering, and verify safe, reliable operation before returning equipment to service.
• Lead root‑cause investigations of recurring failures; implement corrective actions and verify their effectiveness in improving uptime, equipment life, and maintainability.
• Maintain industrial utility systems, including compressed air, cooling, ventilation, and electrical distribution, and coordinate specialized work with qualified contractors as needed.
• Support equipment installation, commissioning, relocation, and factory buildout; identify maintenance access, utility, and spare‑parts needs before equipment enters service.
• Maintain accurate maintenance records, equipment histories, troubleshooting findings, and work instructions in the computerized maintenance management system (CMMS).
• Identify critical spare parts and tooling requirements, and coordinate with suppliers and contractors to reduce downtime and improve service support.
• Apply lockout/tagout, electrical safety, machine guarding, and other required safe work practices; identify hazards and perform work within your training, qualifications, and authorization.
• Serve as a technical resource for facilities issues, communicate equipment condition and recovery plans clearly, and coordinate maintenance priorities with affected teams.
• Mentor technicians, share troubleshooting methods, and support electrical and mechanical skill development through the multi‑craft maintenance program.

Basic Qualifications

• 7+ years of facilities, industrial, or plant maintenance experience with demonstrated breadth across both electrical and mechanical systems.
• Strong working knowledge of CNC equipment, waterjets, and automated systems.
• Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, electrical and mechanical schematics, piping and instrumentation diagrams (P&IDs), and equipment manuals.
• Proficiency with diagnostic tools, hand tools, and power tools.
• Solid understanding of applicable OSHA requirements, the National Electrical Code (NEC), NFPA standards including NFPA 70E, and lockout/tagout practices.
• Strong troubleshooting and root‑cause analysis skills with the ability to work independently.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to explain technical reasoning clearly, communicate mission‑critical information to technical and nontechnical audiences, and mentor others.
• High school diploma or equivalent.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in machining, fabrication, and assembly manufacturing environments.
• Hands‑on experience troubleshooting electrical distribution, three‑phase motors, motor controls, variable frequency drives (VFDs), sensors, and industrial control panels.
• Experience troubleshooting programmable logic controller (PLC) systems, interpreting ladder logic, and using human‑machine interfaces (HMIs) to diagnose equipment faults.
• Trade certification or licensure, such as a journeyman electrician license.
• Experience maintaining and troubleshooting automated production or robotic equipment and supporting industrial utility systems.
• Familiarity with CMMS platforms and predictive maintenance technologies, including vibration analysis and thermography.
• Experience supporting a greenfield or major capital‑project factory buildout.
• Experience with welding equipment maintenance and repair, welding, fabrication, or millwright work.
• Associate degree or technical/vocational training in electrical, mechanical, industrial maintenance, or a related field.
• Prior experience in a vertically integrated hardware company where teams build what they design.

Physical Requirements & Work Environment

• Comfortable working on the factory floor and around active machining, fabrication, assembly, and maintenance operations.
• Ability to lift up to 25 lbs and stand for extended periods.
• Ability to bend, crouch, kneel, climb stairs, and access equipment, utilities, and maintenance areas safely as needed.
• Ability and willingness to use required personal protective equipment and work in environments with elevated noise, heat, fumes, and moving equipment.
• Willingness to travel occasionally to supplier facilities, test sites, and Aalo's reactor site in Idaho.
