Job summary

Watco is seeking a Mule Driver (Yard Jockey) in Houston to move trailers and support yard operations. Starting pay is $19.00 per hour, with 8- to 12-hour shifts, day or night, and weekends as needed. Location: 14035 Industrial Rd., Houston, TX 77015.

The role requires inspecting vehicles, spotting trailers for loading, and communicating with the team while ensuring safety and yard organization. High school diploma or GED is required; TWIC or ability to obtain one and a valid driver’s license are

Qualifications

• Experience driving yard vehicles.
• Able to follow written and verbal instructions.
• Adheres to safety protocols and maintains a clean, orderly work environment.
• Physical ability to bend, stoop, climb, twist, and lift up to 40 pounds.
• Able to communicate clearly with team members, vendors, and customers.
• Able to work flexible hours, including overtime, weekends, holidays, and an on-call basis as needed.
• Valid Driver License and TWIC Card or ability to obtain one.

Responsibilities

• Obtains instructions from Superintendents and Clerks regarding work plans.
• Performs inspections to include pre-trip and post-trip inspections of the yard vehicle and trailers to ensure they are safe and functional.
• Moves trailers safely and efficiently from staging areas to loading/unloading areas.
• Spots trailers in accordance with operational plans to assist with efficient cargo moves.
• Communicates as needed in a clear concise manner with other team members.
• Utilizes chains and straps to secure items for transport.
• Required Safety Gear must be worn at all times to include Safety vest, safety glasses, steel-toe shoes, and hard hats must be worn on terminal or in yard.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Job Summary

Starting Pay: $19.00 per hour

Schedule: 8-12 hour shifts with no set schedule - including day or night shifts and weekend shifts as needed

The mule driver (also known as a Yard Jockey or Yard Tractor Operator) operates a specialized vehicle to move trailers on a dock, in yard, or warehouse, positioning them for loading and unloading. Their duties include safely maneuvering trailers, spotting them at docks, inspecting the vehicle, communicating with operations leadership and maintaining the cleanliness and organization of the yard.
