Position Summary

This recruitment will be used to fill one part-time (a maximum of 24 hours per week) Project Assistant for the Memorial union at Oregon State University ( OSU ).

The Memorial Union (MU) supports the University mission by creating community centered inclusive facilities and environments, providing formal and informal gathering spaces that build meaningful relationships. We are a student-centered organization that fosters student engagement through employment and engages in shared decision making with the Student Advisory Board. The Memorial Union staff value service, inclusion, and accountability.

This position will work with the MU Project Manager and MU Leadership on projects for the facilities that the MU maintains. The focus of this position will be on the interior spaces including meeting spaces, common areas, lounges, offices and vestibules in the Memorial Union, 5 Cultural Centers, and the Student Experience Center.

This recruitment will be used to fill 1 student employee (a maximum of 24 hours per week during the Academic Term, up to 40 hours per week during Academic Breaks) for Memorial Union at Oregon State University.

Preferred candidates will be available to work with us here in Corvallis during this Summer Term, (June-Sept) with an opportunity to stay on pending successful review and employee availability into the Fall Term and beyond.


This position seeks to provide real-world experience for a student employee studying Interior Design, and will allow them to gain experience and build their portfolio while bringing their classroom learning to meet our organization’s needs.

Furthermore, this position STARTS at $16/hr, but a fully oriented & trained Project Assistant can expect to earn $17/hr by mid-July.

Position Duties

  • Assist the MU Project Manager in coordinating projects specific to the interior spaces and furnishings. Build project timelines and scope of work for projects.
  • Work with the building occupants, program owners and the Project Manager in the coordination and delivery for incoming projects.
  • Budget tracking for individual projects and preparing reports.
  • Prepare and manage verbal and electronic communication about projects, including job walks with requesters and service providers, record keeping project progress, tracking budgetary records such as bids, proposals, and purchase orders.
  • Coordinate scheduling and logistics with building occupants, service providers and MU leadership for project impacts such as noise, dust, and intrusion.
  • Use Outlook email, Microsoft Office Products, Teams, Zoom, and Maintenance Connection software system to track project records.
Specific Assigned Tasks:
  • Redesign interior spaces to support assigned programs, projects and personnel
  • Coordinate office moves, adds, changes and installations with MU Staff & Vendors
  • Use Revit and SketchUp to draw interior spaces and model options and plans
  • Coordinate FFE delivery and removal with MU Maintenance and OSU Surplus
  • Conduct Client Meetings
  • Collect Samples to support decision makers’ efforts
  • Create Work Orders and Purchase Requests as necessary
  • Must be academically enrolled in a high school, community college, or university and pursuing a program or course of study
  • Must meet Academic Standing Requirements; students on academic suspension are not eligible for employment
  • Must meet the applicable minimal enrollment standard
    • High School student: Regularly enrolled in a high school or participating in a home-schooling program
    • Undergraduate and post-baccalaureate student: 6 credit hours per term
    • Undergraduate international student: 12 credit hours per term*
    • Graduate student officially admitted to Graduate School: 5 credit hours per term
    • Graduate international student officially admitted to Graduate School: 9 credit hours per term*

*International students may be allowed to carry fewer hours than specified above and still be considered “full-time” by the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services ( USCIS ). A reduced course load is approved by the Office of International Services ( OIS ), and must be provided to the Student Employment Center.

  • Previous experience working in a customer service role
  • Previous work experience at the Memorial Union
  • Experience using Revit Software and/or SketchUp Software to support building & room design

Currently studying in OSU’s College of Business, Interior Design undergraduate program
