Job summary

Polar Semiconductor, Inc. in Bloomington, Minnesota, is seeking an experienced process engineer to contribute to development, transfer, optimization, and documentation of flow and macro modules for Power Trench MOSFETs and BCD devices.

You will mentor junior engineers, work with process and device teams, and provide regular updates to management and customers. The role emphasizes manufacturability, reliability, and collaboration across design, process, and test groups.

Qualifications

• Requires Masters or PhD in EE/Physics/Material Science.
• Strong background in CMOS/BCDMOS or Discrete IGBTs/MOSFETs.
• Experience with process integration and manufacturability metrics.

Responsibilities

• Set up and perform process and device simulations to determine initial process parameters.
• Design and perform experiments to determine process sequences and parameters.
• Analyze data from fabrication of test lots to determine optimization needs.
• Mentor and oversee 2-3 junior engineers.
• Collaborate with Process Engineering to develop and optimize process modules.
• Support initial test chip processing and transfer lots to achieve first-pass success.
• Contribute to layout rules and test chip mask design.
• Suggest test structures for evaluating process-dependencies of device parameters.

Job description

JOB SUMMARY:

* Contribute to the development/transfer, optimization, and documentation of the overall process flow and macro modules required to fabricate reliable, manufacturable Power Trench MOSFETs and BCD (BiPolar-CMOS-DMOS) devices, which meet parametric and performance goals.

* Characterize, evaluate, and document semiconductor devices to ensure reliability and performance to quality standards.

* Evaluate new opportunities for development and/or transfer of new semiconductor technology and processes.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Set up and perform process and device simulations to determine initial process parameters, capabilities, and direction for optimization of new process flows.

2. Design and perform experiments and analyze the results to determine the process sequences and parameters which will yield the target device parameters, by using the results of the process simulations or initial test lots as a starting point.

3. Analyze data (electrical, in-process measurement or visual inspection) from the fabrication of test lots to determine which parameters require additional optimization.

4. Mentor and oversee 2-3 junior engineers as needed.

5. Work with Process Engineering to develop, characterize, and optimize process modules.

6. Support the processing of the initial test chip and transfer lots fabricated with the new process to identify and correct any problem areas and work to achieve first-pass success.

7. Provide inputs to and work with Device Engineers to develop layout rules for the process being developed, using equipment specifications and experimental data.

8. Recommend test structures for and contribute to the layout of test chip mask sets to aid in developing the new process and evaluating specific process-dependencies of device parameters.

9. Provide weekly, monthly, quarterly development updates to upper management and external customers.

10. Support company initiatives, such as; quality, safety and environmental management, CQI, 5S, yield management, and cost containment

11. Perform other duties as required.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

* Strong knowledge of several of the following, as needed to perform exact duties:

o Strong knowledge of key front-end process modules (Silicon, Epi, Diffusion, Etch, Photo, Thin Films, etc.)

o Process Integration Experience in CMOS/BCDMOS or Discrete IGBTs/MOSFETs required

o Strong knowledge of silicon semiconductor device physics

o Experience in Process Flow Design to Achieve Manufacturability Metrics and Meet Electrical Test Targets

o Experience with and Understanding of Electrical Test Data and its Correlation to Process and Cross-sectional data

o Experience Interpreting Failure Analysis Results and Familiarity with Failure Analysis techniques

o Experience with Power Packaging including Assembly and Reliability issues

o Experience in contact/metallization and Backend (BGBM, STM, etc.) Processes a plus

o Experience in Development of Process, Technology and Design FMEA's

* Skills

o DoE Design and Data Analysis Tools (JMP, Spotfire)

o Working with and Interpreting Information/Data between Design and Process Teams

Typically requires a Masters or PhD in Electrical Engineering, Physics or Material Science and 10+ years of experience in a relevant job function.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY:

Mentor junior engineers.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS/WORKING CONDITIONS:

Exposure to hazardous chemicals, high voltages and high equipment temperatures.

What We Offer

Salary

The estimated base salary range for the position is $157,000-$212,000. The pay offered is based on many factors including, but not limited to, relevant education, job-related experience, skills and level of the position.
