Teacher Job Description

JOB TITLE: Teacher

WAGE/HOUR STATUS: Exempt

REPORTS TO: Campus Principal

FUNDING SOURCE: Local

DUTY DAYS: 187 days

PAY GRADE: Teacher Salary

DATE REVISED: February 2025

PRIMARY PURPOSE: Provide students with appropriate learning activities and experiences in the core academic subject areas to help them fulfill their potential for intellectual, emotional, physical, and social growth. Enable students to develop competencies and skills to function successfully in a global society.

Qualifications

Minimum Education/Certification:

  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • Valid Texas teaching certificate for subject/level assigned
  • Completion of Texas Reading Academy required for Elementary
  • ESL Supplemental Certification preferred

Special Knowledge/Skills:

  • Demonstrated competency in the core academic subject area assigned
  • Knowledge of curriculum and instruction
  • Ability to instruct students and manage their behavior
  • Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
  • Fluent with technology use and actively integrates technology to enhance student learning

Minimum Experience: At least one year of student teaching or approved internship

Major Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement plans for the curriculum program assigned and show written evidence of preparation as required.
  • Present the subject matter according to guidelines established by Texas Education Agency, board policies, and administrative regulations.
  • Access and use available data to plan and implement appropriate instructional/learning strategies, activities, materials, and equipment that reflect accommodation for individual needs of students assigned (e.g., gifted and talented, bilingual/ESL, 504).
  • Work cooperatively with special education staff to modify curricula as needed for students with IEPs.
  • Collaborate with staff to plan and implement instructional goals, objectives, and methods.
  • Plan and supervise assignments for teacher aides and volunteers.
  • Use appropriate technologies to enhance teaching and learning.
Additional Responsibilities
  • Assist students in analyzing and improving study methods and habits.
  • Monitor student achievement through assessments.
  • Participate in extracurricular activities and sponsor outside activities as approved.
  • Model positive behavior supporting the district's mission.
Classroom Management
  • Create a conducive learning environment.
  • Manage student behavior according to policies and IEPs.
  • Ensure safety and proper use of materials and equipment.
Communication
  • Maintain open communication with students and parents/guardians.
  • Maintain professionalism with staff, students, parents, and community members.
Professional Development
  • Stay current in content knowledge and instructional strategies.
  • Participate in district and campus professional development.
Policy Compliance
  • Follow regulations and policies.
  • Maintain records and reports.
  • Attend meetings and serve on committees.
  • Demonstrate professionalism and adhere to ethical standards.
Working Conditions

Mental and Physical Demands: Effective communication, emotional control, reasoning, problem-solving, and occasional travel. Prolonged sitting, standing, kneeling, bending, and lifting (less than 25 pounds). Use of standard office equipment and exposure to indoor/outdoor environments. Adherence to safety protocols is essential.
