Job summary

Waymo invites interns to join the Perception team in Mountain View, CA, on-site with hybrid options, to work on end-to-end ML projects using multi-sensor driving data. The role focuses on developing, training, and evaluating models and sharing findings with the production team.

We seek MS or PhD students in CS/ML/Robotics with hands-on DL experience (JAX, PyTorch, TensorFlow), dataset creation and labeling, strong Python skills, and the ability to design controlled experiments.

Qualifications

• Currently enrolled in an MS or PhD program in CS, ML, Robotics.
• Hands-on experience training and evaluating deep learning models.
• Experience building datasets and data labeling.
• Strong Python programming skills.

Responsibilities

• Own an end-to-end ML project: define, collect data, train, evaluate and analyze results.
• Design experiments to measure data choices impact on model quality.
• Build and refine datasets from large-scale multi-sensor driving data.
• Train and evaluate perception models using current tooling.
• Develop metrics explaining model failures and data fixes.
• Share findings with engineers and researchers and land results in production training.
