Job summary

myrvla is seeking a passionate Teacher dedicated to fostering holistic development and socio-emotional well-being in scholars in Seattle. The role requires conducting rigorous instruction while maintaining a strong sense of responsibility.

Successful candidates will hold a Bachelor's degree and a valid teaching certification before the school year starts. You will engage in community-building activities and contribute to scholars' academic success through thoughtful lesson planning and classroom management.

Hours are 7:00 am–3:30 pm or 8:00 am–4:30 pm according to school grade levels. The compensation ranges from $71,857 to $105,486 annually, along with competitive benefits including medical, dental, and professional development.

Qualifications

  • Must possess a Bachelor's degree and teacher certification by the start of the school year.
  • Previous in-classroom teaching experience in a charter school is highly preferred.
  • Background check clearance with Puget Sound Educational Service District is required.

As a Teacher at RVLA, you will be responsible for rigorous instruction and holistic education, ensuring scholars success.

DISPLAYS EMOTIONAL INTELLIGENCE AND A GENUINE LOVE FOR ALL CHILDREN. You deeply understand a scholar’s behaviors, employing empathy and insight. You go beyond verbal affirmations to actively engage with scholars.

IS RELIABLE, HIGHLY ORGANIZED, AND PREPARED. You have a strong sense of responsibility and accountability in fulfilling tasks and commitments. You show meticulous planning and organization in lesson preparation and classroom management.

IS A QUICK THINKER AND RESPONSIVE TO FEEDBACK. You have the ability to swiftly analyze situations and make effective data‑based decisions, adapting to dynamic classroom environments. You listen to input and perspectives from families, peers, and scholars, valuing all insights provided.

At the beginning of the 1st semester (30–90 days):
  • Participates in professional development and training on Safe School Training, internal programs/platforms, RVLA goals, policies, procedures, behavior expectations, Special Education, safety, lesson planning, and standards unpacking.
  • Sets up classrooms and creates lesson plans for 86‑minute blocks with a minimum of 2 weeks to a month of planned lessons, aligning with Common Core state standards.
  • Reads required books: Grading for Equity... and Better Learning Through Structured Teaching: A Framework for the Gradual Release of Responsibility.
  • Develops a syllabus, plans, showcase project, and obtains approval for 3 outdoor field trips.
At the 30‑day mark and ongoing
  • Implements high‑school & beyond plans within classrooms, introduces scholars to circles, and delivers 3+ assessments annually.
  • Compiles a list of scholars in the classroom who require special services, ensures accurate grade/attendance entry, and sends regular family newsletters and progress reports.
  • Initiates academic “brain breaks,” conducts 1–2 safety drills, manages committee assignments and club involvement, and implements scholar intervention plans with meaningful feedback.
  • Analyzes MAP, SBAC, and WCAS data to inform instruction and interventions.
  • Attends major scholar events, conducts outdoor field trips, works on a mini‑project on personal values, and partners with teachers/admin to resolve scholar issues.
At the end of the 1st semester (90–180 days)
  • Effectively attends/ leads mentor time, supports a special education meeting, and participates in at least one community project.
  • Leads circle groups, completes 6+ coaching cycles with peer/leadership feedback, and sets 3+ SMART goals for the school year.
At the beginning of the 2nd semester (180–270 days)
  • Makes school‑year instructional plans consistent, supports club success, and leads or offers to lead professional development sessions.
  • Engages in planning for incoming scholars, participates in scholar showcases, and encourages parental engagement opportunities.
  • Partners with leadership to evaluate SMART goal progress and develops action plans to ensure completion by year‑end.
  • By year‑end, develops strong relationships between scholars, teachers, and parents evident by leadership feedback and positive word‑of‑mouth.
Summer break opportunities (270–365 days)
  • Assists in planning and coordinating summer field trips; supports curriculum mapping and standards alignment for the next school year.
  • Initiates new initiatives with leadership approval and implements them before the next school year.
  • Aids recruiting for staff openings and for scholars to join RVLA charter school.
Education, Skills & Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • Teacher certification obtained before the school year begins.
  • An endorsement in the level of education and/or subject area you wish to teach.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Background & fingerprints clearance with Puget Sound Educational Service District.
  • Growth mindset and receptivity to feedback/coaching from peers and leadership.
  • Previous in‑classroom teaching experience within a charter school (highly preferred).
Compensation & Benefits

Working Hours: 7:00 am–3:30 pm weekdays (K‑5), 8:00 am–4:30 pm weekdays (6‑12); ~40 hours per week plus some weekend activities for the school and community. The compensation range for this position is $71,857 – $105,486 annually, based on skill set, valid certification, and experience level.
