Job summary

St. Labre Indian School is seeking a dedicated Middle School Head Girls Basketball Coach to lead and develop student-athletes in a positive, structured, and competitive environment.

The coach will oversee the middle school girls’ basketball program across A, B, and C squads, emphasizing teamwork and academic excellence while honoring Cheyenne and Crow culture. The role requires coaching experience, strong communication, and the ability to mentor student-athletes.

Qualifications

• Experience coaching or playing basketball, preferably at middle or high school level.
• Understanding of rules and fundamentals of basketball.
• Ability to lead, motivate, and mentor student-athletes.
• Strong communication and organizational skills.
• CPR/First Aid certification or willingness to obtain.
• Must pass a background check and meet school employment requirements.

Responsibilities

• Plan, organize, and conduct practices and games for all middle school basketball squads (A, B, and C).
• Teach fundamental basketball skills and strategies appropriate to middle school athletes.
• Foster a positive team culture focused on respect, discipline, effort, and teamwork.
• Communicate regularly with players, parents, assistant coaches, and school administration.
• Supervise student-athletes during practices, games, and travel.
• Ensure the safety and well‑being of all players.
• Maintain and inventory basketball equipment and uniforms.
• Coordinate with the Athletic Director for scheduling, transportation, and facility use.
• Uphold St. Labre's mission and values, promoting academic success and character development.
• Provide leadership and mentorship to assistant coaches.

Position Overview

St. Labre Indian School is seeking a dedicated and passionate Middle School Head Basketball Coach to lead and develop student-athletes in a positive, structured, and competitive environment. The coach will be responsible for the organization, supervision, and coaching of the middle school girls’ basketball program, including A, B, and C squads. The position emphasizes teamwork, sportsmanship, and academic excellence, while embracing and respecting the rich cultural heritage of our Cheyenne and Crow students.

• Teach fundamental basketball skills and strategies appropriate to middle school athletes.

• Preferred Qualifications:
• Experience working with Native American youth or in a culturally diverse setting.
• Knowledge of MHSA rules and middle school athletic league policies. MHSA coaching certification or ability to obtain prior to season start.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations

• Valid Montana driver's license.
• Appropriate coaching endorsements are preferred.
