TITLE: MS Head Boys Wrestling Athletic Coach (Stipend)

POSITION TYPE: Coach

Stipend for this position: $2198

HIRING SPECIFICATIONS:

• Required: Valid Iowa Coaching Endorsement or Coaching Authorization
• Strong communication, public relations, and interpersonal skills
• Coaching and/or leadership experience
• Desired: Bachelor's Degree in education, coaching or related field
• Knowledge of overall operations of an athletic program
• First Aid and CPR certification
• Knowledge of conference rules and regulations
• Commercial Driver’s License (CDL)

BASIC FUNCTION: To instruct participants in the fundamental skills, strategy, and physical training necessary to realize a high degree of individual and team success. The student athlete will receive instruction that fosters moral values, pride of accomplishment, self‑discipline, self‑confidence, and sportsmanship. Assist the Head Coach in aligning and implementing systems and skill development for the athletic program.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

• Serve as the leader and manager of the athletic program.
• Develop a regular practice schedule and organize practice time for individual and team development.
• Coach and instruct players—individually or in groups—regarding rules, regulations, equipment, and techniques of the sport.
• Follow state, regional, and district regulations governing the athletic program.
• Establish and maintain written standards of student behavior and provide proper supervision of athletes at all times.
• Assign duties to all assistant coaches under jurisdiction.
• Ensure that rules and regulations regarding conduct and eligibility of athletic activities and athletes are explained and followed.
• Maintain eligibility forms, emergency data cards, insurance records, equipment inventory, and related records.
• Work with the Director of Activities and School Equity to schedule facilities for practices and competitions.
• Monitor academic performance of team members to ensure eligibility requirements are met.
• Consult with parents/guardians as necessary about athletic performance.
• Report and secure approval from the Director of Activities and School Equity for all adults associated with the sport.
• Model sportsmanlike behavior and maintain appropriate conduct toward players, officials, and spectators.
• Follow procedures for proper care, maintenance, and requisitioning of equipment, supplies, and uniforms.
• Participate in special activities such as parent’s night, banquets, award nights, and pep assemblies.
• Follow and maintain knowledge of all district policies and procedures.
• Model nondiscriminatory practices in all activities.
• Attend staff development meetings, clinics, and other professional development activities to improve coaching performance.

ADDITIONAL ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS (for every DMPS position):

• Attend work on a prompt and regular basis.
• Maintain confidentiality.
• Maintain satisfactory and harmonious working relationships with the public, students, and other employees.
• Assist with other duties as may be assigned.
