Job summary

The North Slope Borough School District seeks a dedicated coach to implement a program that aligns with NSBSD and ASAA standards, train athletes for interscholastic competition, and manage equipment, safety, and discipline.

You will lead pre-season meetings, ensure policy compliance, maintain handbooks, schedule practices, track injuries, travel, and participant consent, and uphold a strong code of conduct for all student-athletes.

Qualifications

• High school graduate or equivalent is required.
• Ability to pass a background check is required.
• Alaska driver’s license is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Communicate with teenage athletes, parents, and administrators.
• Set an example through living by a high code of conduct.
• Follow safety procedures.
• Understand and adhere NSBSD and ASAA policies and guidelines.
• Follow the NFHS Coach’s Code of Ethics.
• Responsible for annual review of handbooks.
• Holds scheduled practices during regular and post seasons.
• Complete Mandatory Trainings.
• Holds pre-season meeting with students and parents to inform them of program philosophy, rules, schedules, and conduct.
• Complete athlete education following ASAA and NSBSD TAD and Concussion Policies.
• Responsible for accurate completion of NSBSD athletic participation and parental consent forms.
• Issues equipment and uniforms and maintains a record of issued items.
• Plans, organizes, and teaches fundamentals, strategy, rules, and technique.
• Maintains first aid kit at all times.
• Implements injury handling procedures and injury reports.
• Assists Principal/Activities Director in pre-game activities.
• Supervise athletes from departure to home return.
• Foster sportsmanship and assist visiting teams and officials.
• Provide a list of students playing/traveling at least eight days before activity begins.
• Submit inventories, store equipment, and turn in uniforms post-season.
• Complete end-of-season checkout and questionnaire.
• Turn in Activity Report with photos if any.
• Non-compliance may lead to suspension or removal.
