Job summary

Job Juncture is seeking a Service Center Engineer (MRO Design) to support the HQ Service Center in Houston, TX. This on-site role focuses on mechanical design, failure analysis, reverse engineering, and manufacturing support for inspection, repair, modification, and upgrade of complex gear and power transmission equipment.

The engineer collaborates with customers, suppliers, and internal teams, providing shop-floor presence and technical leadership while ensuring quality and engineering

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering is required.
  • 2+ years design or manufacturing engineering experience; 4+ preferred.
  • Experience with mechanical power transmission systems is strongly preferred.
  • Hands-on gearbox repair, manufacturing, inspection, or overhaul is a plus.
  • Strong problem solving, documentation, and communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Support inspection, repair, modification, and upgrade of power transmission equipment.
  • Determine reused, repaired, or replacement components through condition evaluation.
  • Prepare failure analyses and technical reports with root cause findings.
  • Define scope of work to return equipment to operation.
  • Create 3D models and drawings for components and assemblies.
  • Develop job travelers and manufacturing instructions for gears and assemblies.
  • Provide hands-on shop-floor support during machining and assembly.

A leading manufacturer and service provider of industrial power transmission equipment is seeking a Service Center Engineer to support the technical operations of its HQ Service Center in Houston, TX. This individual will be responsible for all engineering activities supporting the inspection, repair, modification, and upgrade of complex mechanical power transmission equipment.

The Service Center Engineer will serve as a key technical liaison between the regional service center and corporate engineering, working closely with customers, suppliers, field service, customer service, and shop personnel. This is a hands-on engineering role that combines mechanical design, failure analysis, reverse engineering, and manufacturing support with direct involvement on the shop floor.

Essential Responsibilities:
  • Implement customer requirements for the repair, modification, and upgrade of industrial power transmission equipment.
  • Evaluate the condition of customer equipment and determine which components can be reused, repaired, or require replacement.
  • Perform failure analysis and develop comprehensive technical reports documenting findings, root causes, and recommended corrective actions.
  • Define the engineering scope of work required to return equipment to full operating condition.
  • Perform dimensional measurements and reverse engineering of non-OEM components and assemblies.
  • Perform engineering calculations supporting the manufacture of new gears and repair of existing gears.
  • Design, specify, and develop detailed 3D models and engineering drawings for mechanical components and assemblies.
  • Develop job travelers outlining required operations, repair procedures, and manufacturing instructions for gears, components, and complete equipment.
  • Provide hands-on technical support on the shop floor during machining, assembly, inspection, and repair operations.
  • Diagnose technical issues, guide repair activities, and implement corrective actions to ensure successful project execution.
  • Provide technical support to suppliers, customers, field service personnel, and customer service teams.
  • Collaborate with manufacturing and operations teams to ensure repairs and modifications meet customer requirements, engineering standards, and quality expectations.
  • Serve as a technical resource for troubleshooting complex mechanical and manufacturing problems.
  • Support customer requirements and project execution from initial equipment evaluation through final repair and delivery.
Desired Qualifications:
  • Bachelors Degree in Mechanical Engineering required.
  • 2+ years of experience in design or manufacturing engineering; 4+ years preferred.
  • Experience with mechanical power transmission systems, industrial gear drives, or rotating equipment strongly preferred.
  • Hands-on experience with gearbox repair, manufacturing, inspection, or overhaul preferred.
  • Knowledge of fluid film and rolling element bearings, gear design, and vibration analysis highly desirable.
  • Proficiency with SolidWorks 3D modeling and mechanical design software.
  • Strong understanding of mechanical design principles, engineering drawings, manufacturing processes, and technical documentation.
  • Excellent computer skills with proficiency in Microsoft 365/Office Suite.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to troubleshoot complex mechanical and manufacturing issues.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to interact effectively with customers, suppliers, and internal teams.
  • Highly organized with the ability to manage multiple projects, establish priorities, and meet deadlines.
  • Customer-focused professional who can work independently while contributing effectively within a cross-functional team environment.
  • Willingness to travel occasionally as required.
