Job Description

GENERAL OVERVIEW:

Performs prescribed MRI imaging procedures at a technical level not requiring constant supervision. Competently performs a variety of technical procedures that require independent judgment and initiative.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Positions patient and performs imaging procedure(s). Analyzes results and identifies issues with the quality of imaging results. Takes appropriate action to resolve image quality issues, including repositioning patient and repeating procedure. Enters, transmits and reports scan results. (50%)
  2. Reviews patient history and physician's orders. Educates patient regarding procedures, equipment and exam to ensure patient's understanding and cooperation. (25%)
  3. When ordered, prepares and administers contrast media and/or medications within scope of practice. Monitors patient condition continually and reports/responds to changes in status as appropriate. (15%)
  4. Prepares equipment and supplies. Selects appropriate exposure factors and imaging parameters. Implements safety standards and performs appropriate quality control procedures on equipment. Troubleshoots, resolves, and/or reports equipment malfunctions as necessary. (10%)
  5. Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Associate’s Degree; or Certification from a technical school; or six months to one year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Radiography Certification (R), Nuclear Medicine Technology Certification and Registration (N), Radiation Therapy Certification and Registration (RT), or MRI (MR) through ARRT, CNMT, ARDMS, or ARMRIT.
  • MRI Certification through ARRT is required within 18 months of hire unless employee has obtained ARMRIT. Employees in an MRI role prior to July 1, 2022, without MRI certification are not required to obtain it; those with existing MRI certification must maintain it. Employees hired or transferred after July 1, 2022, must maintain active certifications.
  • CPR – American Heart Association
  • Act 34 Criminal Background Clearance
  • Act 33 Child Abuse Clearance
  • Act 73 FBI Fingerprinting Clearance

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Prior experience as an MRI Technologist.
