Job summary

Highmark Health’s Allegheny Health Network is seeking a Radiologic Technologist to perform diagnostic imaging procedures with independence and professional judgment. The role involves patient positioning, image quality analysis, and collaboration with physicians to ensure optimal exams.

The position requires ARRT MR certification (or equivalent), an Associate degree or higher, CPR certification, and compliance with required background clearances.

Qualifications

  • Associate degree or equivalent or 6 months to 1 year related experience
  • ARRT in Radiography (R) or MR technologist certification (MR) or CAMRT
  • MR certification must be maintained for MRI role
  • CPR certification (American Heart Association)
  • Background clearances: Act 34, Act 33, Act 73

Responsibilities

  • Position patient and perform imaging procedures independently.
  • Analyze results and identify imaging quality issues.
  • Adjust imaging to resolve quality issues, including repositioning.
  • Enter, transmit and report scan results.
  • Educate patient about procedures, equipment and exam to ensure understanding.
  • Prepare and administer contrast media and/or medications when ordered.
  • Monitor patient condition and respond to changes during imaging.
  • Prepare equipment and supplies and select appropriate exposure factors.
  • Ensure safety standards and perform QC on equipment.
  • Troubleshoot and report equipment malfunctions.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

GENERAL OVERVIEW This job performs prescribed radiographic imaging procedures at a technical level not requiring constant supervision. Competently performs a variety of technical procedures that require independent judgment and initiative.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Positions patient and performs imaging procedure(s) independently.
  • Analyzes results and identifies issues with the quality of imaging results.
  • Takes appropriate action to resolve image quality issues, including repositioning patient and repeating procedure.
  • Enters, transmits and reports scan results. (40%)
  • Reviews patient history and physician's orders.
  • Educates patient regarding procedures, equipment and exam to ensure patient's understanding and cooperation. (20%)
  • When ordered, prepares and administers contrast media and/or medications within scope of practice.
  • Monitors patient condition continually and reports/responds to changes in status as appropriate. (20%)
  • Prepares equipment and supplies.
  • Selects appropriate exposure factors and imaging parameters.
  • Implements safety standards and performs appropriate quality control procedures on equipment.
  • Troubleshoots, resolves, and/or reports equipment malfunctions as necessary. (20%)
  • Performs other duties as assigned or required.
QUALIFICATIONS
  • Minimum Associate’s degree or equivalent from a two-year college or technical school; or six months to one year related experience and/or training; or equivalent education and experience.
  • American Registry Of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) in Radiography (R), or American Registry of Magnetic Resonance Imaging Technologists (ARMRIT), or Canadian Association of Medical Radiation Technologists (CAMRT) registered as an MR technologist certification required.
  • Employees in a MRI role (prior to July, 1 2022) who do not have a MRI certification are not required to obtain them; employees in a MRI role with existing MRI certification are required to maintain active certifications.
  • Employees hired, or transferred into the MRI role after July 1, 2022 are also required to maintain active certifications.
  • Preferred Prior radiology experience.
  • Additional Employment Requirements: If ARRT (R) is the only certification ARRT in Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MR) is required within 18 months from hire date CPR – American Heart Association.
  • Act 34 Criminal Background Clearance Certificate.
  • Act 33 Child Abuse Clearance Certificate.
  • Act 73 FBI Fingerprinting Criminal Background Clearance Certificate.
