Job summary

Intermountain Healthcare Inc. seeks a flexible MRI Technologist to support the Tellica Salt Lake City clinic in a PRN capacity. You will maintain ARRT/ARMRIT MRI competency, perform exams, ensure patient safety, and assist students and other MRI staff.

Primary assignment is Salt Lake City with opportunities to support other Tellica locations in Northern and Central Utah. The role offers daytime hours (7:00 AM – 7:00 PM), no Sundays or holidays, and the chance to pick up additional shifts based

Job Description

We are seeking a flexible and patient-focused MRI Technologist to support our Tellica Salt Lake City clinic. This PRN role is ideal for someone seeking regular outpatient MRI opportunities while maintaining the flexibility to pick up additional shifts at other Tellica locations based on department needs and personal availability.

While the primary staffing need is at our Salt Lake City clinic, this position may provide opportunities to support other Tellica outpatient imaging locations throughout Northern and Central Utah. Students, new graduates, and eligible cross‑training candidates are encouraged to apply.

Posting Specifics

• Schedule: PRN (as needed)
• Shift Details: Day shift, typically 7:00 AM – 7:00 PM
• Department Schedule: Closed Sundays and holidays
• Location: Primary assignment at Tellica Salt Lake City; opportunities to support other Tellica locations as needed
• Preferred Availability: Ability to support approximately two shifts per week at the Salt Lake City clinic.

Essential Functions

• Maintains American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) or modality-specific competency in all clinical and technical functions.
• Ensures proper patient identification, order verification, and prepares the patient for the exam.
• Performs exams per department protocol and reviews images for quality, clarity, and accuracy.
• Adheres to MRI safety guidelines and maintains a safe working environment.
• Completes studies within acceptable time limits without compromising patient care or quality.
• Assists and instructs students and other MRI Techs in exam protocols, procedures, positioning, and equipment.
• Provides appropriate patient education, ensures patient comfort, and addresses concerns.
• Practices appropriate infection control and sterile techniques.
• Understands and operates equipment and related information systems to ensure quality images.
• Keeps accurate records of patient information, procedures performed, and any adverse reactions.
• Follows protocols for medical necessity, coding, charging, consents, QC programs, and reporting equipment failures.

Minimum Qualifications

• American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT)(MR) or American Registry of Magnetic Resonance Imaging Technologists (ARMRIT) or American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT)(R) cross‑trained in MRI
• Basic Life Support certification (BLS) for healthcare providers
• IV Competency within 30 days of hire

Preferred Qualifications

• 1-2 years of MRI technologist experience
• Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution

Physical Requirements

• Ongoing need for employee to see and read information, labels, assess patient needs, operate monitors, identify equipment and supplies.
• Frequent interactions with patient care providers, patients, and visitors that require employee to verbally communicate as well as hear and understand spoken information, alarms, needs, and issues quickly and accurately, particularly during emergency situations.
• Manual dexterity of hands and fingers to manipulate complex and delicate equipment with precision and accuracy. This includes frequent computer use and typing for documenting patient care, accessing needed information, medication preparation, etc.
• Expected to lift and utilize full range of movement to transfer patients. Will also bend to retrieve, lift, and carry supplies and equipment. Typically includes items of varying weights, up to and including heavy items.
• Need to walk and assist with transporting/ambulating patients and obtaining and distributing supplies and equipment. This includes pushing/pulling gurneys and portable equipment, including heavy items. Often required to navigate crowded and busy rooms (full of equipment, power cords on the floor, etc.)
• May be expected to stand in a stationary position for an extended period of time.
