Job summary

IU Health North Hospital in Carmel, Indiana seeks a PRN MRI Technologist to support imaging services as needed for PTO and staffing coverage. You will perform MRI scans, ensure patient safety, obtain IV access, administer contrast, and monitor for adverse reactions, while maintaining high image quality.

Candidate should have 0–3 years MRI experience, BLS certification, and ARRT/ARMRIT credentials within 12 months. Onsite work with flexible scheduling to meet department needs.

Qualifications

• 0–3 years of relevant experience.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required (AHA).
• MRI experience preferred.
• Advanced certification within 12 months: RT(MR) or RMRIT; ISDH license may be required if applicable.

Responsibilities

• Ensure MRI safety and screen for ferromagnetic objects and contraindications.
• Educate patients on what to expect and ensure comfort during scans.
• Obtain IV access and administer contrast; monitor for adverse reactions.
• Follow scanning protocols and adjust techniques to optimize image quality.
• Perform routine QC and verify equipment functionality.
• Collaborate with radiologists and referring physicians; document data in EMR.
• Assist with minimally invasive procedures as needed.

This is a PRN MRI Technologist opportunity at IU Health North Hospital in Carmel, Indiana.

Job Duties, Tasks and Qualifications:

Possesses knowledge of MRI safety and safety zones. Reviews patient history and screens for safety concerns (ferromagnetic objects, implanted devices, etc.). Educates patients on what to expect and ensures they are safe and comfortable during their scan. Obtains IV access, prepares and administers contrast and is familiar with recognizing and responding to adverse contrast events. Possesses advanced knowledge of cross-sectional anatomy. Ensures the MRI environment remains safe by screening all visitors and team members entering the MRI environment. Displays knowledge of scanning protocols and adjusts to ensure diagnostic images. Performs routine QC and ensures equipment is functioning properly. Collaborates with radiologists and referring physicians. Documents necessary information in EMR. Assists with minimally invasive procedures as needed.

Requires 0-3 years of relevant experience. Basic Life Support certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) is required. Requires ability to maneuver equipment and improvise positions when the condition of the patient does not permit routine positioning. MRI experience is preferred. Requires advanced certification through one of the following: American Registry of Radiologic Technologists: Registered Technologist - Magnetic Resonance, RT(MR) ; or American Registry of Magnetic Resonance Imaging Technologists (ARMRIT): Registered Magnetic Resonance Imaging Technologist (RMRIT) , within 12 months of hire. May be required to meet registry/certification requirements for another modality, if applicable. May require license from Indiana State Department of Health (ISDH), if applicable. MRI experience is preferred. #LI-Onsite
