Job description

MRI Technologist – Schaumburg

Position Highlights:

  • Full-Time; 40 Hours
  • Hours: M-F 11:30am-8pm, Two weekend days per month from 7:30am-4:00pm. Holiday and Travel as needed

Performs a variety of complex diagnostic MRI procedures, with the primary responsibility of completing diagnostic studies from inception to completion under the direction of the radiologist. This includes, but is not limited to: performing routine MRIs and MRAs, taking accurate verbal patient histories and starting I.V.s to administer IV contrast. Maintain a positive imaging environment for our patients and act as a patient liaison to the radiologist.


Responsibilities

Responsibilities include:

  • Performing quality assurance checks on equipment and procedure areas.
  • Ensuring proper MRI safety standards are met.
  • Ensuring that all ferromagnetic materials are located outside of scan room.
  • Able to explain correct emergency shutdown procedures.
  • Able to properly demonstrate fire and safety evacuations.
  • Checking patient transfer/transport equipment to ensure compliance with safe operational standards.
  • Operating required equipment necessary to produce scans using established guidelines and MRI protocols.
  • Completing necessary protocolling tasks.
  • Performing ordered examinations according to written MRI protocols.
  • Properly identifying (three unique identifiers).
  • Introducing oneself to the patient using name and role title.
  • Explaining the procedure in laymen’s terms using educational/informational aids when necessary.
  • Allowing time for patient feedback and questions, ensuring all questions are addressed prior to exam start.
  • Verifying completion of MRI screening forms and validating provided information.
  • Starting IV access according to standard procedure and injecting media under the direction of a physician.
  • Selecting appropriate IV site according to exam protocol.
  • Choosing proper catheter or needle and performing venipuncture following established standard precaution guidelines.
  • Selecting correct IV contrast and preparing the correct amount for administration according to established protocols.
  • Selecting appropriate injection parameters and monitoring injection according to established guidelines.
  • Recording injection amount, IV location, and flow rate on correct documents.
  • Generating QA documentation (QR reports) when infiltration or reaction occurs.
  • Preparing and positioning patient for procedure using established MRI protocols to achieve the highest quality image.

Qualifications
  • Graduate of an accredited education program in MRI required.
  • ARRT Registered Technologist, RT(MR) or ARMRIT Certified Technologist required.
  • BLS – Basic Life Support, AED Adult & Pediatric CPR required.
  • Minimum of one year MRI imaging experience.
  • Job requires standing for prolonged periods, frequently bending/stooping, reaching (overhead, extensive, repetitive).
  • Repetitive motion: computer keyboard.
  • Attention to detail and ability to write legibly.
  • Ability to lift/push/pull 50 - 100lbs.
  • Manipulating MRI coils/table and accessory equipment.
  • Reaching equipment at heights greater than 6 feet.
  • Assisting in moving patient from stretcher, wheelchair, or bed to and from MRI table.
  • Adequate eyesight to observe the patient’s condition, read MRI computer screen/imaging equipment, and evaluate MRI images for appropriate image quality.
  • Sufficient hearing to respond to patient’s verbal inquiries.
  • Communicating with other personnel involved in the care of the patient.
  • Initiating timely response to audible alarms and signals.
  • Ability to perform multi tasks simultaneously.
  • Ability to maintain self composure and a positive attitude under stress.

The compensation for this role includes a base pay range of $32.65-$49.00, with the actual pay determined by factors such as skills, experience, education, certifications, geographic location, and internal equity. Additional compensation may be available through shift differentials, bonuses, and other incentives. Base pay is only a portion of the total rewards package.
