Job Summary

Performs magnetic resonance imaging scans of selected portions of the anatomy as requested by the clinician.

Minimum Qualifications

Minimum Education: Graduate of an AMA approved School of Radiologic Technology or Completion of an MRI program

Minimum Years of Experience: None.

Substitutable Education & Experience (Optional): None.

Required Certifications/Licensure: Currently has CPR certification or must obtain within 90 days of hire; ARRT of an AMA approved School of Radiologic Technology or MRI; MRI Certification or required within 1 year from hire date.

Required Training: Proficiency in venipuncture; Will undertake a 3 to 6 month training period to become familiar with the equipment and departmental procedures.

Essential Functions

• Demonstrates competence to provide developmentally appropriate care/treatment for various patient populations.
• Performs detailed safety screening of all patients regarding metallic foreign bodies, implants, and medical devices.
• Checks EMR on all patients for correct order, contraindications, and precautions.
• Prepares patients for MRI procedures, uses universal precautions, and informs patients of the process.
• Observes patient condition during MRI and contacts appropriate personnel when necessary.
• Recognizes emergency patient conditions and takes appropriate measures.
• Provides pertinent information to radiologist to contribute to care planning.
• Positions patients appropriately on MRI table using proper equipment.
• Provides hearing protection for all in the MRI room.
• Maintains cleanliness of MRI Department and equipment, disposes of contaminated materials properly, and stocks supplies.

Duties & Responsibilities

• Assists with patient transport and performs high-quality MRI scans following protocols.
• Uses judgment to resolve technical or patient-related problems and notifies relevant personnel.
• Contributes to equipment quality control and electronically sends images to the appropriate destination.
• Performs other duties as assigned, including emergency responses, on-call work, weekends, holidays, and shifts.
• Proficient in starting IVs and injecting contrast when necessary.
• Practices excellent patient service, showing care and concern to reduce patient anxiety.
• Monitors and teaches MRI students, assists with biopsies and aseptic procedures.
