Job summary

Medix is seeking an experienced MRI Technologist for a contract position available on travel or local assignments in Illinois. The role covers two GE MRI scanners (1.5T/3T) with a 13‑week contract and potential extension, including guaranteed hours and night/weekend coverage.

The ideal candidate will work independently during solo shifts, demonstrate strong communication, and provide high-quality imaging for diverse patient populations in a collaborative imaging team.

Qualifications

• Minimum 2 years of hospital-based MRI experience in a fast-paced environment.
• 2+ years of direct experience operating GE MRI systems (1.5T / 3T with modern software).
• ARRT (MR) or ARMRIT certification required; current BLS (AHA) required.
• Demonstrated ability to work independently without direct supervision during solo shift hours.

Responsibilities

• Perform high-quality MRI diagnostic imaging for inpatients and outpatients across neuro, MSK, and specialized body protocols.
• Review patient screening forms and verify safety information for implants and devices prior to scanning.
• Safely position, transfer, and lift patients independently (up to 50 lbs).
• Execute specialized imaging sequences including MRAs, runoffs, body/rectal cancer staging, and breast imaging.
• Work autonomously during late-night and weekend shift windows, maintaining workflow and patient care.
• Collaborate with nurses, radiologists, and attending physicians to ensure safe patient care.

Job description

Job Title: MRI Technologist (Contract / Travel or Local)

Facility Setting: Acute Care Hospital / Outpatient Imaging

Compensation & Pay Packages

• Traveler Pay: Up to $2,700/week for 32 hours
• $1,575/week Tax-Free Stipend (stipend portion)
• Relocation Reimbursement: Up to $350 each way offered for travelers relocating for the assignment duration.
• Local Pay: Up to $2,400/week for 32 hours ($75.00/hour)
• Guaranteed Hours: 32 Hours/Week (high potential for overtime)
• Shift Breakdown:
• Friday: 6:00 PM - 2:30 AM
• Saturday: 1:00 PM - 9:30 PM
• Sunday: 1:00 PM - 9:30 PM
• Solo Shift Requirement: Tech works independently during late-night and weekend hours (Fri 12:00 AM-2:30 AM; Sat/Sun 6:30 PM-9:30 PM).

Contract Duration: 13 Weeks (High likelihood of extension up to 26 weeks; option to convert to permanent staff after 6 months)

Key Responsibilities

• Perform high-quality MRI diagnostic imaging for inpatients and outpatients across neuro, MSK, and specialized body protocols.
• Thoroughly review patient screening forms and verify safety information for implants and devices prior to scanning.
• Safely position, transfer, and lift patients independently (utilizing department equipment such as Maxi Air / hover mats and movable tables as needed; physical ability to lift/push/pull up to 50 lbs required).
• Execute specialized/advanced imaging sequences including MRAs, runoffs, body/rectal cancer staging (gel insertion protocols), vaginal staging, spine/brain radiation planning, and breast imaging.
• Work autonomously during late-night and weekend shift windows, maintaining smooth workflow and proactive patient care.
• Collaborate effectively with nurses, radiologists, and attending physicians to ensure safe patient care and clear clinical communication.

Qualifications & Requirements

Required:

• Experience: Minimum 2 years of hospital-based MRI experience in a fast-paced environment.
• Equipment: 2+ years of direct experience operating GE MRI systems (1.5T / 3T with modern software). Must be capable of hitting the ground running with minimal orientation (1 week or less).
• Certifications: ARRT (MR) or ARMRIT certification required; current BLS (AHA) required.
• Capabilities: Demonstrated ability to work independently without direct supervision during solo shift hours.

Preferred Skills:

• Experience with complex or advanced imaging protocols (MRAs, peripheral runoffs, breast imaging, body/oncology staging).
