Job summary

University of Miami Hospital & Clinics - Imaging Services is seeking a skilled radiology professional to coordinate scheduling and patient flow for interdepartmental procedures, and to perform diagnostic imaging under radiologist supervision.

The role includes assisting with MRI/Ultrasound protocol development, education of new physicians, ensuring accurate billing, and adherence to safety and regulatory guidelines.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent or relevant experience plus certification/license.
  • Minimum 3 years of relevant experience required.
  • Valid State of Florida General Radiographer license required.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinates scheduling and patient flow for interdepartmental procedures.
  • Performs diagnostic imaging studies under the direction/supervision of a radiologist.
  • Assists with education and training of new physicians.
  • Assists radiologists and PhD's in developing new protocols and Ultrasound imaging techniques.
  • Monitors charging of Ultrasound procedures and supplies daily.
  • Demonstrates Ultrasound equipment for site visits.
  • Ensures orders are appropriate to exam type and communicates discrepancies.
  • Verifies patient identity and ensures consent and education.
  • Assists with MRI equipment operation under supervision of a Radiologist.
  • Adheres to MRI protocols and regulatory guidelines (Joint Commission, AHCA, ACR, FL DOH, FDA/MQSA).
  • Assists positioning patients for MRI and uses immobilization/protective equipment.
  • Maintains aseptic technique and universal precautions.
  • Assists radiologist with imaging procedures, starting IVs and injecting contrast if applicable.
  • Evaluates MRI scans for technical quality and transmits to PACS.
  • Adheres to University and unit policies; supports asset safeguarding.

Work Shift: Full-Time: 40 hrs. per week; Days, Nights. Flexible Shift, On-calls and weekends may be required.

  1. 1. Coordinates scheduling and patient flow for interdepartmental procedures.
  2. 2. Performs diagnostic imaging studies under the direction/supervision of a radiologist.
  3. 3. Assists with the education and training of new physicians.
  4. 4. Assists radiologists and PhD's in developing new protocols and Ultrasound imaging techniques that are unique to facility. Assists in research initiatives and development of research protocols.
  5. 5. Monitors charging of Ultrasound procedures and supplies daily to ensure correctness.
  6. 6. Demonstrates Ultrasound equipment for 'site visits' for visiting physicians and administrators.
  7. 7. Ensures that orders are appropriate to the type of exam recommended by physician. Notifies supervisor of any discrepancies and/or contacts physician's office for correct orders if necessary.
  8. 8. Verifies the patient's ID by checking their name and date of birth on electronic medical record and patient's wristband. Always obtains necessary consents and education.
  9. 9. Performs specialized tasks associated with the operation of MRI scanners and related equipment in accordance with prescribed safety procedures under the direction/supervision of a Radiologist using age appropriate standards of practice.
  10. 10. Integrates diagnostic, laboratory results, patient history and medical records and adapt exam as necessary. Adheres to MRI protocols to maintain high quality standards. Adheres to any regulatory body guidelines governing modality including but not limited to: Joint Commission, AHCA, ACR, FL DOH and FDA/MQSA.
  11. 11. Assists positioning patients in required anatomical position for display of body for MRI scans using immobilization and protective equipment as necessary.
  12. 12. Maintains proper aseptic technique utilizing universal precaution guidelines (hand washing, gloves, gown, mask, eye protection and equipment disinfection).
  13. 13. Assists radiologist with imaging procedures, starting IV's, and injecting contrast, if applicable.
  14. 14. Evaluates MRI scans for technical quality, collate processed images in sequence of exposure and appropriately label. Film/transmit to PACS.
  15. 15. Adheres to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguards University assets.
