Job summary

Atrium Health's Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem, NC is seeking a MRI Technologist to perform MRI procedures with focus on safety and accuracy. You will work closely with the Radiology team to ensure quality imaging and patient care.

Responsibilities include verifying orders, obtaining patient history, preparing patients, administering contrast per protocol, and communicating findings with physicians.

Qualifications

• Must be graduate of an ARRT-recognized Radiologic or Nuclear Medicine Technology program.
• MRI registry must be obtained within 1 year of hire.
• BLS certification required.

Responsibilities

• Examine requests and verify orders with Radiologist before exams; address discrepancies with ordering provider.
• Identify patients using two identifiers and explain procedures; prepare patients and document appropriately.
• Interview patients for medical history; review EMRs; record history on requisitions; correlate results with exam.
• Own the exam from start to finish through dictated results.
• Prepare and administer IV contrast per protocol; record type and amount when requested.
• Evaluate image quality and consult Radiologist for discrepancies; adjust as instructed.
• Provide basic patient care and inform nursing of any changes; assist with life support and code blue situations.
• Perform MRI scanning and assist during invasive procedures; maintain sterile technique.

You’ll Need

• Graduate of an institution accredited by an agency that ARRT recognizes in Radiologic or Nuclear Medicine Technology. Active enrollment in an MRI ARRT registry eligible or ARMRIT program required.
• MRI registry must be obtained within 1 year of hire.

Essential Functions

• Examines requests and verifies orders on each assigned patient. Refers and questions orders to the Radiologist before performing exam. Contacts ordering provider when there are discrepancies.
• Properly identify (Using two patient identifiers) and assist patients while offering a brief explanation of the procedures. Prepares patients for the procedure with a full explanation and documents on appropriate worksheets.
• Interviews patients for a complete medical history. Reviews in-patients, ER, and outpatients EMR’s to obtain pertinent clinical history. Records medical history on requisitions. Correlates other test results and laboratory data with exam being performed.
• Assumes responsibility for the exam from beginning of exam until completion of dictated results.
• Prepares and administers IV contrast according to departmental protocols. On request, records contrast type and amount.
• Evaluates technical quality of images and consults with a Radiologist if needed. Recognizes abnormal anatomy and processes any additional, reconstructed images, and/or measurements as instructed.
• Performs basic patient care functions. Informs appropriate nursing personnel of any changes in the patient’s condition. Initiates life support measures for patients when necessary. Assists in “code blue” procedures during medical emergencies.
