Job summary

Geisinger seeks a Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) Technologist to perform and assist in MR procedures, ensure patient safety, and document clinical histories per policy. The role requires ARRT certification (MR or NMTCB/ARMRIT) and a Radiologic Technology education track, with a bachelor’s degree preferred.

The MRI technologist will prepare, administer and document medications as permitted, educate students and staff, and uphold ALARA principles while delivering high-quality imaging and patient

Qualifications

  • ARRT, ARRT-MRO, ARMRIT, NMTCB, and NMTCB-NR certifications required upon hire.
  • Education: Radiologic Technology specialty training; Bachelor's degree preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Ensures correct order is obtained, patient is properly identified and prepared for exam, and that clinical history is corroborated and appropriately documented while respecting confidentiality.
  • Utilizes imaging protocol and optimizes factors for patient safety and quality, applying ALARA principles.
  • Preparing and/or administering medications as prescribed by a licensed practitioner.
  • Evaluates images for proper positioning and technical quality; verifies data archival/transfer and post-processing as needed.
  • Educates and monitors students and other health care providers.
  • Applies magnetic resonance safety to minimize risk to patient and staff.
  • Assists licensed practitioner with MR interventional procedures and performs MR imaging as prescribed.
  • Selects pulse sequences considering protocols and data acquisition factors.
  • Demonstrates commitment to department and organizational priorities; performs routine and complex duties.
  • Participates in modality quality or process improvement activities.

Graduate from Specialty Training Program-Radiologic Technology
Bachelor's Degree-Related Field of Study (Preferred)

Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) Technologists are responsible for the use of radiofrequencies within a magnetic field for diagnostic, therapeutic or research purposes. MRI technologists performs magnetic resonance imaging and acquire and analyzes data needed for diagnosis at the request of and for interpretation by a licensed practitioner.

Magnetic resonance technologists independently perform or assist the licensed practitioner in the completion of magnetic resonance imaging procedures. Magnetic resonance technologists prepare, administer and document activities related to medications in accordance with federal and state laws, regulations, or lawful institutional policy.Job DutiesEnsures correct order is obtained, patient is properly identified and prepared for exam, and that clinical history is corroborated and appropriately documented while respecting confidentiality.

  • Utilizes appropriate imaging protocol and optimizes technical factors while maximizing patient safety, optimizing patient care, and applying principles of ALARA (As Low as Reasonably Achievable).
  • Preparing and/or administering, as applicable, medications through new or existing vascular access site as prescribed by a licensed practitioner.
  • Evaluates images for proper positioning and acceptable technical quality and verifies archival storage and/or transfer of data, post processing of data if applicable.
  • Educating and monitoring students and other health care providers.
  • Applying principles of magnetic resonance safety to minimize risk to patient, self, and others.
  • Assisting the licensed practitioner with magnetic resonance interventional procedures.
  • Performing magnetic resonance imaging procedures as prescribed by a licensed practitioner.
  • Selecting appropriate pulse sequences with consideration given to established protocols and other factors influencing data acquisition parameters.
  • Demonstrates commitment to department and organizational priorities.
  • Fully proficient in all assigned routine and complex job duties.
  • Participates in modality quality or process improvement activities.
