Job summary

Mercyhealth is seeking a qualified MRI Technologist to operate MRI equipment, position patients, and ensure safety throughout imaging procedures in our Illinois facilities. You will review clinical history, prepare patients, and select pulse sequences while maintaining aseptic technique and documenting in the EMR.

ARRT MR or equivalent credentials preferred; CPR/BLS required within 90 days. We value teamwork, integrity, and patient-centered care.

Qualifications

  • Graduate of an accredited radiography program or accredited MRI training program.
  • Minimum 1 to 3 years experience preferred; new grads considered.
  • ARRT MR if MRI Primary pathway required on hire or ARRT with MR credential within 2 years.
  • ARMRIT credential required on hire if ARRT not held.
  • CPR or BLS certification required within 90 days.

Responsibilities

  • Operates MRI system and related equipment to obtain images.
  • Reports MRI safety incidents per protocol.
  • Positions patient and equipment for optimal imaging.
  • Implements vascular access when needed and administers contrast.
  • Assists with interventional procedures and student training.
  • Evaluates image quality and reconstructs data for display.
  • Uses RIS/PACS and documents in EMR; initiates life support when needed.

Job description

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Performs procedures or examinations under the order of a licensed medical practitioner for diagnostic interpretation.
  • Prepares patient for procedures.
  • Maintains knowledge of current MRI safety practices and utilizes such as part of daily practice. Assumes responsibility for persons entering Zones I-IV.
  • Provides patient instruction to obtain desired results, gain cooperation, and minimize anxiety.
  • Applies principles and policies of magnetic resonance safety to minimize risk to patient, self and others.
  • Reviews patients’ clinical history ensuring that appropriate scan is ordered and labs are within range - reviewing with radiologist and/or provider as necessary.
  • Selects and operates the magnetic resonance system, surface coils, physiologic gating devices, and associated equipment to achieve desired results.
  • Reports and documents MRI safety incidents/ adverse events per protocol.
  • Positions the patient and equipment to best demonstrate the anatomic area of interest, respecting patient ability, safety and comfort.
  • Immobilizes patients as required for appropriate examination.
  • Selects appropriate pulse sequences with consideration given to established protocols and other factors influencing data acquisition parameters.
  • Starts and maintains intravenous access, to include power injectable implanted ports/specialized lines.
  • Assist with medical record/image sharing as necessary.
  • Operates MRI scanner, associated equipment, and power injector to produce cross section images of patient anatomy for diagnostic purposes.
  • Documents all information pertinent to MRI procedure in electronic medical record to include medication reconciliation.
  • Verifies consent/screening form for all entering Zone IV.
  • Prepares and administers contrast media orally and intravenous maintaining aseptic technique.
  • Assists the physician with interventional procedures.
  • Provides practical instruction to students and partners.
  • Evaluates images and data for technical quality.
  • Manipulates and reconstructs digital data for display, ensuring proper identification is evident.
  • Ability to perform independent high-level MRI studies such as but not limited to; all cardiac studies, run offs, conditional device protocols, and MRI procedural studies.
  • Assumes responsibility for provision of physical and psychological needs of patients during procedures.
  • Uses radiology information systems (including PACS), completes all required records and reports, archives and submits images for physician review and interpretation.
  • Initiates basic life support action when necessary.
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE

Graduate of an accredited radiography program or accredited MRI training program.

Minimum One (1) to Three (3) years experience preferred.

Will consider new graduates.

CERTIFICATION/LICENSURE

ARRT (MR) if completed the MRI Primary pathway required upon hire OR.

ARRT (R) with requirement to obtain the MR Credential within 2 years of hire.

ARMRIT Credential required upon hire only if they do not hold ARRT.

Approved CPR or BLS certification required within 90 days.

Provides clinical supervision of allied health students and radiology aides.

PAY RANGE

$34.45 - $51.68
