POSITION SUMMARY:
Under the direction of the Radiologist, the MRI Technologist performs MRI procedures at a technical level that does not require direct supervision over technical detail. Uses independent judgment, ingenuity, and acquired knowledge to obtain quality diagnostic images. Assists with interventional procedures.
EDUCATION/CERTIFICATION:
- A high school diploma or GED equivalent; graduate of an ARRT approved Radiological Technology School program.
- Registration and certification with the American Registry of Radiological Technologists and licensure with the State of Connecticut are required.
- Must remain current with ARRT continuing education requirements and maintain an active ARRT certificate.
- Must have advanced certification from the ARRT in MRI within one year of hire.
- Certification in Basic Cardiac Life Support upon hire and maintaining clinical competency during employment.
EXPERIENCE:
- 1-3 years MRI experience or graduation from a certificate MRI program.
COMPETENCIES:
- Knowledge of MRI exams and procedures; capable of performing exams independently.
- Understanding of physics, anatomy, medical terminology, sterile technique, and safety related to MRI.
- Strong communication skills with co-workers and patients.
- Ability to work cooperatively, sharing in rotational call and holiday hours.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES:

- Performs all types of MRI scans with demonstrated competency.
- Ensures patient data matches exam type; follows up on questionable orders.
- Accurately documents procedures in Meditech; reviews exams for technical accuracy.
- Adheres to safety guidelines for screening before entering MRI area.
- Performs IV insertions as required.
- Might mentor new staff regarding workflow, equipment, and competency.
- Provides patient instructions and follow-up information.
- Troubleshoots electronic equipment.
- Manages own schedule, documents patient flow, and remains flexible for emergencies.
- Responds to on-call procedures; may travel to affiliate locations.
- Works cooperatively, demonstrating core values.
- Rotational call and holiday hours may be required.
