Job description

The USC Mark and Mary Stevens Neuroimaging and Informatics Institute and Laboratory of Neuro Imaging (INI) are world leaders in the development of advanced computational and scientific approaches for the comprehensive mapping of brain structure and function. LONI's unique multidisciplinary environment and cutting edge resources allow for integration of clinical, psychological and genotypic information with neuroimaging phenotypes for research questions in neurology, psychiatry and developmental neurobiology.

The Center for Image Acquisition (CIA) houses two of the most advanced MRI scanners in the world. As part of the USC Stevens Neuroimaging & Informatics Institute, these scanners enable cutting-edge levels of spatial and temporal resolution in images of the living human brain. The CIA is housed in a newly built facility designed for the Siemens 3T Prisma and Siemens 7T Terra MRI scanners, and is attached to the main building that houses the Institute's data center.

Job Duties
  • The part-time MRI technologist performs basic and complex MR imaging procedures and may be assigned post-processing responsibilities.
  • Demonstrates an understanding of human cross-sectional anatomy, physiology, pathology, pharmacology, and medical terminology.
  • Maintains a high degree of accuracy in participant positioning and image acquisition/formation.
  • Maintains knowledge about magnetic field safety and properly screens all participants and visitors prior to admittance into the MR magnet room.
  • Prepares and administers paramagnetic contrast media in accordance with department, hospital, policy, and state and federal regulations, and maintains accurate up-to-date records of procedures performed.
  • Ensures accurate processing of radiology orders and exercises strict confidentiality.
  • Operates various post-processing/3D workstations.
  • Translates technical terminology to lay persons and maintains relationships with vendors, campus contacts, faculty, and staff.
Job Qualifications
  • Current State of California unlimited certification in Radiology, registered with A.R.R.T. and BLS for Healthcare Provider from the American Heart Association, and Fire and Safety Certification.
  • Knowledge of medical and scientific terminology and the ability to distinguish between types of medical procedures and diagnoses.
  • Knowledge of cross-platform computers, applications, peripherals, and general office equipment.
  • Hourly rate range: $36.35 - $57.56.
  • Minimum education: Less than high school specialized/technical training.
  • Minimum certifications: Satisfactory completion of a formal radiological training program in an AMA-approved school and certified radiological technologist in California.
  • Minimum experience: 3 years.
  • Minimum skills: Experience in radiology; excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Preferred education: Related undergraduate study.
  • Preferred experience: 5 years.
