MRI Technologist – Duke Regional Hospital
Commitment Bonus: $15,000, Relocation: $3,000.
Summary
- Perform a variety of complex, specialized, and technical tasks associated with the operation of high‑field‑strength magnets.
Work Performed
- Screen patients for MR safety prior to procedures.
- Assist radiologists with protocoling and performance of procedures.
- Start IVs and administer contrast media as directed and by protocol.
- Evaluate MR scans for technical quality, collate processed images, sequence acquisition, and label appropriately.
- Schedule patients for procedures and assist with clerical functions.
- Charge MR procedures and supplies in the EHR, load and operate power injectors for contrast administration.
- Maintain accurate patient records.
- Provide orientation for new technologists.
- Provide education and training for student technologists.
- Ensure the psychological and physical needs of patients for MR procedures.
- Use the Image Archival System.
- Operate equipment for high‑field‑strength magnets to produce special radiographic images.
- Position patients using immobilization and protective equipment as required.
- Coordinate scheduling and patient flow among multiple MR sites.
- Assist physicians (interns, residents, fellows) with education and training when applicable.
- Help develop new protocols and imaging techniques unique to DUHS.
- Teach the correct application of >100 MR protocols to new technologists, physicians, and researchers.
- Perform other related duties incidental to the work described.

Essential Physical Job Functions

Education
- Graduate or completion of a program meeting eligibility requirements for registration/certification, or currently holds required registry or certification.
Experience
- Level I: Obtain ARRT or ARMRIT in Magnetic Resonance within 18 months of employment.
- Level II: Minimum of two years' experience as an MRI technologist.
- Level III: Minimum of four years' experience within specialty modality in which promotion is sought.
Degrees, Licenses, and Certifications
- Certification in Radiography (R), Radiation Therapy (T), Nuclear Medicine Technology (N), CNMT, ARDMS, or registry eligible for Magnetic Resonance. ARRT or ARMRIT required within 18 months, and BLS certification.
