Job summary

Responsibilities

  • Perform QA on MRI scanner and instruments.
  • Operate control console to select imaging sequences.
  • Enter participant data and monitor data acquisition.
  • Post-process acquired images per study protocol.
  • Maintain and archive MRI data for research.
  • Assist in scheduling MRI scans and participant flow.
  • Provide expert information on scanner parameters and safety.

Job description

Position Objective: The MRI Technologist will independently provide support services to satisfy the overall operational objectives of the National Institute of Mental Health within the National Institutes of Health. The primary objective is to provide services and deliverables through performance of support servicesDuties and Responsibilities:Perform regular quality assurance procedures on MRI scanner and instrumentsOperate the control console during scanning, including selecting proper imaging sequenceProvide clinical expertise to callers remotely, on the NIH IRP staff support line during the COVID 19 pandemicEnter participant patient data at start of scanning and monitor data acquisition during scanningPerform post-processing steps to acquired images and data as specified by the study investigatorsCreate, enter and maintain research data on associated reports and spreadsheetsEnsure that MR imaging, behavioral and physiological data collected are of the highest qualityCollect and archive MRI dataAdhere to safety precautions and procedures that govern the MRI FacilityAct as a participant advocate for participant safety and comfortAdminister oral intravenous contrast material prior to magnetic resonance scansMonitor subjectpatient comfort and subject cooperation with experimental protocol, physiological parameters pulse rate, respiration, 02 saturation and length of time of research examOperate the MRI scanner doing structural and functional imaging and MR spectroscopy studies, which are part of clinical research studiesOperate the control console during scanning; select proper imaging sequences; operate peripheral hardware for effective image and data acquisitionMaintain MRI scheduleAttend staff meetings to indicate MRI protocol progressissuesTrain research staff and other staff on scanner operation and MR safety issuesProvide technical advice in cases when examination parameters chosen by the FMRIP fellow may compromise the quality of the examAdvise staff on any problems that may need attentionWork in conjunction with other clinical staff, research scientists, and administrative staff in maintaining the smooth function of the facilityAssist in scheduling of research participants for MRI scans to achieve a smooth flow and optimal utilization of the Facility 3Recognize equipment malfunctions and notify appropriate personnel in case of malfunctions 2Perform regular quality assurance procedures on the scanner, data acquisition and archiving of imaging data 1Work products and documents related to performing scans; performing functional MRand spectroscopic imaging studies of the head.Work products and documents related to providing expert level information and assistance on software, hardware capabilities; providing input on modifications of MR unit to produce optimum image spectra and efficiency.Work products and documents related to monitoring subject/patient comfort.Basic Qualifications:MRI Certification in MRI TechnologySkilled in Magnetic resonance imagingPreferred Qualifications:Ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing, with non-technical and technical staffDetail-oriented and possess strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize multiple tasks and projects*This job description is not designed to cover or contain a comprehensive listing of activities, duties or responsibilities that are required by this position.To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.
