Summary:
Under the general supervision of the Lead MRI Technologist, according to standard procedures, operates a magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) unit and related equipment to produce images of designated anatomical areas. Collects and completes records on patient data and equipment operation. Provides assistance to patients and radiologists. Resolves minor equipment issues. Performs calibration tests and other quality control functions on equipment and notifies service personnel as required.
Responsibilities:

- Complies with department and hospital policies and procedures, reviewing relevant policies, the Employee Handbook, and completing mandatory education (hospital-wide, department-specific, and job-specific).
- Participates in departmental and interdepartmental quality improvement activities.
- Performs daily QA/Reboot System in the morning; shuts down system in the evening.
- Selects appropriate technical factors for each patient, considering age-specific needs.
- Screens all patients and visitors for contraindications such as incompatible implants, ferrous metal objects, and pregnancy.
- Assesses patients' physical condition to determine their ability to undergo the procedure.
- Communicates examination details to patients and verifies or obtains informed consent when necessary.
- Obtains and maintains patient history from charts, referring physicians, or interviews.
- Positions patients for imaging to ensure quality and safety.
- Protects and immobilizes patients according to safety standards.
- Utilizes technical equipment including PACS, RIS, film printers, power injection, and Teleradiology systems.
- Performs complex MRI imaging, including cross-sectional, sagittal, coronal, and oblique images.
- Prepares MRI scans for review and labels outgoing film folders accurately.
- Troubleshoots equipment issues and notifies lead technician if reboot procedures are ineffective.
- Participates in clinical instruction and supervision of radiological students.
- Maintains updated knowledge of MRI developments and patient care procedures such as sterile techniques and infection control.
May perform general X-ray duties if licensed as a Radiologic Technologist.
Qualifications:
- Registered Radiologic Technologist (ARRT) preferred.
- MRI (ARRT MR) Certification required within 6 months of hire.
- Current CPR certification from AHA BLS for Healthcare Providers.
- Previous MRI experience preferred.
- Physical ability to sit, stand, walk, and lift 10-35 lbs, with good body mechanics.
- Moderate twisting and frequent bending required.
- Good fine motor skills and accurate near and far vision, with depth perception and minimal color discrimination.
- Ability to hear whisper at three feet.
