MRI Technologist

Job Summary

The MRI technologist will work with the radiologist and fellow staff members to prepare patients and operate magnetic resonance equipment in order to obtain diagnostic scans. The MRI technologist works under general supervision in performing a variety of exams and procedures according to departmental protocol, as requested by physician order. The technologist will position the patient’s body part for imaging and set appropriate technical factors on the imaging equipment with a high degree of competency to ensure production of quality images for interpretation by the radiologist.

Patient Care
  • Explains the procedure and post‑procedure orders to the patient to gain cooperation and minimize anxiety.
  • Prioritizes workflow in regard to patient condition and ensures patients’ arrival and departure occur in a timely manner.
  • Provides an atmosphere conducive to gain the patient’s cooperation and confidence.
  • Utilizes data received from patient satisfaction and practice performance results to identify opportunities to improve and participates in the planning and improvement process.
Compliance
  • Cleans examination surfaces between patients.
  • Provides clean linen including sheets, gowns, pillowcases, and towels.
  • Immediately cleans spills following universal precautions.
  • Properly stores accessory equipment when not in use.
Teamwork
  • Shares and initiates regular and professional communication with co‑workers.
  • Facilitates and participates in regular staff meetings.
Technical Competency
  • Maintains sterile equipment and fields.
  • Adjusts cameras to obtain the proper density and contrast.
  • Performs any necessary warm‑up and quality control procedures on the equipment.
  • Uses protocols to obtain images of internal structures.
  • Critiques images for quality and makes necessary judgments to determine if repeat is necessary.
Qualifications
  • Education: High School Diploma or GED required. Graduate of an accredited school for Magnetic Resonance Imaging.
  • Experience: 2 years of healthcare experience preferred. Refer to the Life Support Training Policy for additional details.
  • Licensure: ARRT or ARMRIT Registered in MRI, or eligible. Registry must be completed within 12 months of start date.
  • Additional Skills/Requirements Required: Demonstrates proficiency in verbal and written communications. Ability to work in a stressful environment. Ability to multitask and proficient in MRI safety.

Physical Demand Code: 13A, Imaging

Work Function/Activity: Medium to Heavy Physical Demand. The job requires standing for prolonged periods, frequently traveling and reaching (overhead, extensive, repetitive). Proficient communicative, auditory, and visual skills. Attention to detail and ability to write legibly. Ability to lift/push/pull up to 100 lbs. For any weight over 35 lbs., use Safe Handling Equipment. May be exposed to radiation.
