Job summary

Aurora St. Luke's Medical Center is seeking an experienced MRI Technologist to join a high‑caliber imaging team. You will operate multiple MRI scanners, including GE and Siemens, performing advanced imaging with a focus on patient safety and accuracy.

Responsibilities include obtaining history, administering contrast, and post-processing with quality labeling. The role supports a fast-paced, collaborative culture and requires minimal supervision with strong teamwork.

Qualifications

  • Advanced training beyond High School that includes the completion of an accredited Radiologic Technology program.
  • Typically requires 2 years of experience in an MRI Technologist role.
  • Licensure, Registration, and/or Certification in MRI/RT with timelines and BLS requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Operates MR equipment to perform basic to advanced diagnostic procedures (angiography, cardiac, fetal MRI, etc.).
  • Obtains patient history and administers contrast media under Radiologist supervision.
  • Positions patient, selects scanning factors, ensures image quality and safety.
  • Post-processes images and labels them with patient data and study location.
  • Maintains records and documents billing codes; updates radiology information system.

MRI Technologist | Aurora St. Luke's Medical Center

Join one of the region's most advanced MRI teams at Aurora St. Luke's Medical Center. Our department features five MRI scanners, including both GE and Siemens technology, and performs a wide variety of specialized imaging procedures, including:

  • Cardiac MRI
  • Functional MRI
  • Neuro imaging
  • Body imaging
  • Musculoskeletal imaging
  • Specialty MRI exams

You’ll work alongside a highly skilled and supportive team of MRI technologists in a fast-paced, collaborative environment where innovation and exceptional patient care are at the forefront.

Schedule
  • Primarily four days per week
  • 2:30 PM - 10:00 PM
  • One weekend of on-call coverage every eight weeks
  • Participation in the backup on-call rotation

Major Responsibilities:
  • Proficiently operates magnetic resonance (MR) equipment used to perform basic to advanced diagnostic procedures. Must perform and be proficient with all of the following procedures if performed at assigned facility which include angiography, thoracic, abdomen, venous, cardiac, functional MRI, gated, interventional, breast MRI, fetal MR, and spectroscopy.
  • Obtains medical history from patients, compares requisitions to physician's orders to ensure ordered exam accuracy, and prepares and administers contrast media under the direction of the Radiologist.
  • Positions patient and selects proper scanning factors, adjusts factors to attain the appropriate images, and provides magnet protection and safety in accordance with regulatory agencies.
  • Post-processes images as directed and accurately identifies and labels images identifying patient name, medical record unit (MRU) number, and location or position of scan on all images.
  • Maintains records in accordance with various regulatory agencies and enters patient and study information into the radiology information system, and documents billing codes of procedures performed to ensure accurate patient charges.
  • Identifies equipment performance issues and performs equipment quality assurance tests and calibration procedures. Reports malfunctioning equipment to appropriate staff and evaluates new products and equipment.
  • Serves as a technical resource, role model and/or preceptor for students and staff. Acts as a resource to staff at own facility and throughout the system.
  • Facilitates clinical problem solving and collaborates with other departments to provide education on managing patients after procedures and any other imaging department processes and procedures.
  • Performs various patient positioning and transporting duties, which require lifting and pushing/pulling, while utilizing proper technique.
  • Must be able to demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served. Must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and possess the ability to assess data reflective of the patient's status and interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient's requirements relative to his/her age-specific needs, and to provide the care needed as described in the department's policies and procedures. Age-specific information is developed further in the departmental job standards.
Licensure, Registration, and/or Certification Required:
  • Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) certification issued by the Canadian Association of Medical Radiation Technologists (CAMRT), or
  • Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) certification issued by the American Registry of Magnetic Resonance Imaging Technologists (ARMRIT) or
  • Registered Technologist (RT) registration issued by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT), and
  • Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) registration and certification issued by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) needs to be obtained within 2 years, and
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers certification issued by the American Heart Association (AHA) needs to be obtained within 6 months unless department leader has determined it is not required.
Education Required:
  • Advanced training beyond High School that includes the completion of an accredited or approved program in Radiologic Technology.
Experience Required:
  • Typically requires 2 years of experience in a MRI Technologist role.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required:
  • Advanced knowledge of cross sectional anatomy and magnetic safety.
  • Proficient in IV and venipuncture (if required by facility).
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal and patient service skills to work effectively with physicians, patients and other staff members.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Intermediate computer skills.
  • Certification Addendum
  • Team members will maintain annual educational requirements for hospital based certifications (e.g.DNV, CARF or others).
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:
  • Must be able to sit, stand, walk, lift, squat, bend, twist, and reach above shoulders frequently throughout the workday.
  • Must be able to:
  • - lift up to 50 lbs. from floor to waist.
  • - lift up to 20 lbs. over the head.
  • - carry up to 40 lbs. a reasonable distance.
  • Must be able to:
  • - push/pull with 30 lbs. of force.
  • - perform a sliding transfer of 150 lbs. with a second person present.
  • May be exposed to mechanical, electrical, chemical, radiation and magnetic hazards as well as blood and body fluids; therefore, personal protective equipment must be worn as necessary.
  • Must have clear speech, vision and hearing.
  • Operates all equipment necessary to perform the job.
