The role requires ARRT and MRI registrations, a Bachelor’s degree (preferred) and five years radiology experience, with 1–2 years supervisory background.

Qualifications

  • MRI registration is required.

Responsibilities

  • Lead MRI section operations to achieve policy compliance and patient care quality.
  • Oversee staffing, scheduling, resources, and budget within authorized limits.
  • Perform MRI examinations and direct patient care as needed.
  • Orient, supervise, and evaluate MRI staff; conduct monthly meetings.
  • Coordinate with Radiology management and physicians to ensure smooth operations.
  • Maintain competency with iSite PACs, syngo, Soarian and related systems.
  • Support cross-training and development programs for MRI Associates.
  • Develop and enforce departmental policies and quality improvements.

Job Summary:

This position efficiently and effectively manages the daily processes of the MRI Section and assures compliance with all policies, procedures, regulatory, and accreditation standards. The MRI Supervisor assists Radiology managers and physicians in maintaining the highest degree of clinical/operational performance and customer satisfaction. Additionally, the MRI Supervisor supports the mission, vision, values, and strategic initiatives of Mary Washington Healthcare and demonstrates a commitment of quality service to our patients and their families, the community, the physicians, and our Associates.

Essential Functions & Responsibilities:
  • Performs leadership functions that support the goals of Mary Washington Hospital and the mission, vision, and values of Mary Washington Healthcare.
  • Oversees operations and manages section’s resources to assure efficient and effective performance of services provided.
  • Assists Radiology management in developing, administering, and monitoring the departmental budget to ensure cost-effective operations within authorized budget allocations.
  • Demonstrates a high degree of knowledge and understanding of the section being managed.
  • Oversees scheduling and imaging of patients to ensure smooth daily operations and quality services.
  • Demonstrates clinical competency on an annual basis as evidenced by completion of a Competency Based Orientation Tool for Clinical Associates in MRI.
  • Performs MRI examinations and provides direct patient care as needed.
  • Orients, supervises, and evaluates the performance of the MRI staff to ensure safe and effective operations.
  • Conducts staff meetings at least monthly to communicate information, discuss safety/quality issues, and monitor continued understanding and compliance with MWH and departmental policies.
  • Develops and empowers section’s Associates to the benefit of the Associate and the department.
  • Effectively interacts with students, consistently providing supervision and instruction.
  • Is supportive of the MWH School of Radiologic Technology and the MRI cross-training program.
  • Assists with the development, revision, and enforcement of departmental policies, procedures, protocols, and standards to ensure quality care, efficiency, and procedural compliance.
  • Initiates performance improvement activities for the MRI Section utilizing a FOCUS PDCA (Plan, Do, Check, Act) approach to improvement.
  • Serves as a liaison between staff, physicians, other healthcare providers, and customers.
  • Establishes effective work relationships and maintains effective communications with all customers.
  • Evaluates and resolves customer satisfaction and quality/performance issues in a timely manner.
  • Creates an environment that promotes customer service excellence.
  • With the Physician Director for MRI, conducts subject research, evaluates, recommends, and implements new programs, services, technologies, and operations tools.
  • Maintains competency in the use of iSite PACs, syngo, Soarian, and other information and image management systems and serves as a resource to staff regarding the functionality of these systems.
  • Participates in Radiology Administrator on call and modality specific on call rotation.
  • Demonstrates the knowledge and ability to meet the age specific needs of the patient groups identified below under Qualifications.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
  • ARRT registered in Radiologic Technology; MRI registered.
  • One to two years supervisory experience preferred.
  • Five years relevant experience required.
  • Bachelors Degree in health care related field preferred.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Required Physical Requirements:

Constant (67-100% of workday) use of arms and hands; frequent (34-66% of workday) standing, walking, sitting; occasional (0-33% of workday) bending and squatting; ability to lift 35 lbs.; ability to push and pull up to 20 lbs.; auditory and visual skills to include color determination

Possesses critical thinking and analytical skills. Ability to multi-task. Ability to communicate effectively and collaborate with a multi-disciplinary team. Capacity to cope with difficult situations. Ability to tolerate irregular hours including evenings, nights, and weekends.

Environmental Requirements and Exposure Hazards:

Risk of exposure to radiation and toxic chemicals. Potential for exposure to bloodborne pathogens; must be able to wear appropriate personal protective equipment.

For MRI Associates:

Must complete MRI Associate screening and be approved to work in the MRI environment (Zones 3 & 4) at all times.

Compensation Pay Range:

$45.65 - $68.48
