Job summary

Advocate Health is seeking a Radiology Technologist to perform MRI and CT scans with a focus on high-quality imaging and patient safety. The role is full-time, 32 hours per week, with day and PM shifts and rotating weekends.

You will position patients, perform post-processing, and ensure proper data transfer to PACS. Requirements include ARRT MRI/CT, CPR, and at least 3 years radiology experience, plus strong communication with patients and staff.

• ARRT MRI/CT Registry Knowledge, Skills & Abilities: Basic knowledge of cross sectional anatomy and usual MRI/CT procedures.
• ARRT Registry license.
• CPR Certification.

Responsibilities

• Selects appropriate technical factors on an individual patient basis to provide optimal quality examinations.
• Performs post processing of computer data to enhance data and image information.
• Operates MRI/CT equipment and related support devices.
• Transfers patients to/from MRI/CT and prepares them for examination.
• Initiates IVs for contrast administration per policy.
• Processes and copies film.
• Networks images to PACS.
• Saves to optical disc if necessary.
• Maintains patient history for radiologist interpretation.
• Assists in obtaining confidential history and allergy screening.
• Maintains safety standards for magnetic radiation and departmental policies.
• Attends in-services and educates others on techniques.
• Maintains and documents equipment issues and coil checks.

Schedule Details/Additional Information

Day and PM shifts, rotating call and weekends, primary location is MRI work and CT as needed.

Pay Range

$38.20 - $57.30

Major Responsibilities

Accountable for positioning and immobilization of patients and proper selection of technical factors along with computer reformatting of acquired data to obtain magnetic resonance scans and computer tomography procedures of optimal quality.

• 1)Selects appropriate technical factors on an individual patient and procedural basis to provide optimal quality examinations.


• 2)Performs post processing of computer data to enhance data and image information.


• 3)Operates support equipment for MRI/CT, such as satellite console, additional disc drives, pressure injector, imaging formatters, and laser cameras.


• 4)Transfers patients to and from MRI/CT scanning table and prepares patient for examination by explaining procedure and answering any questions patient may have.


• 5)Initiates IVs for administration of contrast media for MRI/CT enhancement in accordance with departmental policy and utilizing universal precautions in the process.


• 6)Processes and copies film.


• 7)Network images to PACS.


• 8)SAves to optical disc if necessary

Accountable for securing pertinent history from patient, patient’s chart or family member to provide the radiologist with adequate information for examination interpretation and to ensure procedural criteria is met.

• 1)Assists in obtaining confidential history of patient, which includes allergy screening to ensure appropriateness of patient for examination as well as ensuring the administration of contrast agents during required procedures.

Accountable for being compliant with established Accrediting Organization and department safety standards to ensure patients and staff well being at all times.

• 1)Maintains magnetic and radiation safety standards.


• 2)Maintains fire safety standards.


• 3)Maintains knowledge of department Code 10-2 policy.


• 4)Maintains knowledge of departmental disaster, evacuation and quench policies.


• 5)Maintains and constantly implements universal and infectious safety standards.


• 6)Maintains documentation of equipment malfunctions and monthly coil checks.


• 7)Attends mandatory inservices.


• 8)Promotes patient safety by reporting issues through established channels and participating as requested in safety initiatives.

Accountable for obtaining documentation for department records related to patient statistics, supplies, patient billing information and preservation of patient records.

• 1)Documents confidential patient’s history to ensure appropriateness of patient for examination.


• 2)Documents patients charge data, modifying and initiating charges as procedure modifications are made per the radiologist.


• 3)Documents any allergic reaction, incident report regarding staff or patient situations.


• 4)Provides timely information for inventory of supplies.


• 5)Ensures all films are properly identified and numbered for each patient according to current department procedures for accurate interpretation by radiologist.


• 6)Assists in scheduling of examinations and documenting complete.

Accountable for keeping abreast of current magnetic resonance, computerized tomography and radiologic skills and of new developments in the field.

• 1)Responsible for attending inservices and educational seminars when appropriate.


• 2)Responsible for instructing other technologists to certain new techniques learned, as well as working with students when required.

Accountable for maintaining good relations when dealing with all persons encountered in daily performance of job.

• 1)Relating with Internal Customers – fellow staff members, physicians.


• 2)Relating with External Customers – ancillary departments, inpatients/outpatients, and family members.

Education/Experience Required

• -3 years general radiology experience.


• -ARRT RT MRI/CTRegistry Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required: -Basic knowledge of cross sectional anatomy and usual MRI/CT procedures.


• -ARRT RT Registry -IDNS License.


• -CPR Certification.

*This position will need to recognize needs and behaviors of a variety of age groups of patients treated, i.e., understand child growth and development, normal patterns of adolescent behavior and look for signs of normal aging. Prior experience with various age groups is preferred.

If position has direct patient care or direct patient contact the following lifting requirement supersedes any previous lifting requirement effective 06/01/2015. Ability to lift up to 35 pounds without assistance. For patient lifts of over 35 pounds, or when patient is unable to assist with the lift, patient handling equipment is expected to be used, with at least one other associate, when available. Unique patient lifting/movement situations will be assessed on a case-by-case basis.
