Job summary

Advocate Health's Good Shepherd Hospital in Barrington, IL, is seeking a part-time Radiologic Technologist for the Radiology department. This 20-hour-per-week role involves operating x-ray equipment to produce diagnostic radiographs and ensuring patient safety and comfort.

The successful candidate will hold ARRT certification, IEMA accreditation, graduate from an accredited program, and maintain ALARA standards while supporting quality imaging and documentation.

Qualifications

  • Graduate of an accredited school of Radiologic Technology.
  • IEMA Accreditation in Radiologic Technology.
  • Current ARRT (RT) Certification.
  • At least 1 year experience performing general diagnostic, fluoroscopy, GI, and C-arm/O-arm procedures.

Responsibilities

  • Operate x-ray equipment to produce radiographs as ordered by a physician.
  • Adhere to infection prevention and ALARA principles during exams.
  • Ensure correct patient identification and explain procedures to patients.
  • Maintain department standards for radiographic quality and documentation.

Variable offsite and Hospital Shifts

Every other weekend, call, and Holiday Rotation

Pay Range:

$30.70 - $46.05

Major Responsibilities:
  • Operates x-ray equipment to produce radiographs of designated portions of the body as ordered by a physician
    • Accountable for the performance and documentation of all diagnostic procedures utilizing proper technical parameters to produce quality studies.
    • Knowledgeable in the safe use, maneuverability and operation of all general radiography, portable, fluoro, C-arm and O-arm equipment
    • Proficient in the performance of general diagnostic, general fluoroscopy, GI, Pain, Urology, C-arm and O-arm procedures
  • Adheres to infection prevention, isolation and sterile techniques as it applies in patient handling and delivery of care
  • Adheres to ALARA principles in performance of exams to reduce exposure to self, the patient and others
  • Utilizes proper patient identification to ensure the correct exam is performing on the correct patient at the correct time.
  • Obtains and records pertinent patient history, explains the procedure to patient in a manner to ensure understanding, ensures patient comfort during performance of exam.
  • Adherence to department standards of radiographic quality.
    • Reviews radiographs to ensure optimum quality.
    • Reports environmental/equipment problems to appropriate resource personnel.
    • Performs required computer function for RIS/HIS systems.
    • Labels all radiographs appropriately following department’s established criteria and standards.
  • Consistently maintains an attitude of professionalism, teamwork and collaboration with co-workers, physicians and internal customers/departments.
  • Consistently provides positive interactions and a customer first approach with patients and their families/caregivers and visitors.
  • Participates in assessment of own learning needs and actively seeks opportunity for increased competency and growth
    • Attends in-services to ensure knowledge of current departmental and technical procedures.
    • Attends CPR classes to maintain re-certification.
    • Maintains appropriate state license and national board certification.
  • Maintenance of supplies needed to ensure adequate level needed for quality patient care.
    • Ensures cleanliness of equipment and work area.
    • Maintains inventory of supplies in work area. Identifies supplies and equipment needs for procedure, restocks work area as necessary.
    • Uses Universal Precautions in daily performance of procedures.
Education/Experience Required:
  • Graduate of an accredited school of Radiologic Technology.
  • IEMA Accreditation in Radiologic Technology
  • Current ARRT (RT) Certification
  • 1 year experience and proficient in the performance of general diagnostic, general fluoroscopy, GI, Pain, Urology, C-arm and O-arm procedures.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required:
  • Good communication skills

  • Ability to work under stressful situations
  • Ability to handle patient information in a confidential manner
  • Ability to adapt to fluctuations in patient volumes to meet patient care and department needs
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:
  • Ability to work weekends and holidays in order to accommodate patient care needs.
  • Ability to work rotating shift any day of the week.
  • Ability to take call and arrive on site within one hour
  • May be exposed to radiation during procedures.
  • May be required to sit or stand for long periods of time or be required to lift and move patients
  • May be exposed to hazardous materials, infectious disease and required to participate in annual emergency drills.
  • Required to maintain current CPR certification.
  • Ability to lift up to 35 pounds without assistance. For patient lifts of over 35 pounds, or when patient is unable to assist with the lift, patient handling equipment is expected to be used, with at least one other associate, when available. Unique patient lifting/movement situations will be assessed on a case-by-case basis.
