Job summary

Apera is seeking a MRB Stress Engineer to assess and disposition nonconformances found during manufacturing for next-generation electric aircraft. You will perform real-time stress analysis on composite and metallic parts, interfacing with quality, production, and design teams to ensure airworthiness and regulatory compliance.

This role focuses on converting NCR findings into technical dispositions, reviewing NCRs, and conducting hand calculations and FEA as needed.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Aerospace, or Materials Engineering.
  • 5+ years of stress engineering experience.
  • Dedicated MRB experience in aerospace structures.
  • Strong understanding of composite structures (80% of aircraft is composite).
  • Knowledge of aircraft structures, design guidelines, composite and metallic failure modes.
  • Experience with stress analysis reports and structural substantiation.
  • Proficiency with Nastran (solver) and Patran (post-processing).
  • Ability to perform both hand calculations and FEA.
  • Excellent communication skills to interface with cross-functional teams.

Responsibilities

  • Perform stress analysis of nonconformances on composite (and metallic) parts and assemblies identified on the production line
  • Review quality documentation and NCRs to determine defect extent and appropriate analysis approach
  • Provide technical dispositions for nonconforming parts ensuring compliance with type design, regulatory standards, and airworthiness requirements
  • Collaborate with MRB liaison, Materials & Processes, Manufacturing Engineering, Quality, and Design teams on complex deviations
  • Communicate NCRs clearly to Structures Stress team leads and request technical support when needed to maintain production flow
  • Perform stress analysis using existing loads, evaluating how defects impact margins and load paths
  • Run FEA (Nastran solver) when required for severe defects involving load redistribution
  • Demonstrate knowledge of standard repair procedures for typical nonconformance occurrences
  • Compile NCR Stress Reports documenting incidents, stress substantiation, assessment results, and approvals for acceptance or repair
  • Work face-to-face with operators, quality, and manufacturing teams on the production floor
  • Take ownership and push dispositions through to completion without waiting for information to come to you
  • Willingness to work staggered shifts (e.g., Tuesday-Saturday or Sunday-Thursday)

Job description

Industry: Electric Aerospace / Advanced Aviation

Location: South Burlington, VT (Onsite)

A pioneering electric aerospace company is hiring an MRB Stress Engineer to evaluate and disposition nonconformances discovered during manufacturing and assembly. This role is critical to maintaining production flow while ensuring structural integrity and regulatory compliance for next-generation electric aircraft. You'll perform real-time stress analysis on composite and metallic parts, working at the intersection of engineering, quality, and manufacturing.

If you have MRB experience, composite structures expertise, and thrive in fast-paced production environments where your decisions directly impact aircraft delivery, this is an opportunity to join a mission-driven team transforming aviation.

Responsibilities
  • Perform stress analysis of nonconformances on composite (and metallic) parts and assemblies identified on the production line
  • Review quality documentation and NCRs (Nonconformance Reports) to determine defect extent and appropriate analysis approach
  • Take ownership and push dispositions through to completion without waiting for information to come to you
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Aerospace, or Materials Engineering
  • 5+ years of stress engineering experience
  • Dedicated MRB experience in aerospace structures - this is non-negotiable
  • Strong understanding of composite structures (80% of aircraft is composite)
  • Knowledge of aircraft structures, design guidelines, composite and metallic failure modes
  • Experience with stress analysis reports and structural substantiation
  • Proficiency with Nastran (solver) and Patran (post-processing)
  • Ability to perform both hand calculations and FEA
  • Excellent communication skills to interface with cross-functional teams
  • Self-starter with proactive, ownership-driven mindset
  • Willingness to work staggered shifts (e.g., Tuesday-Saturday or Sunday-Thursday)
Why This Role Stands Out
  • Joining a company with real flight time
  • On track for being the first fully certified electric aircraft
  • Be the person who "saves the day" - your decisions directly unblock production and keep aircraft moving toward delivery
  • Work on cutting-edge electric aircraft with 80% composite primary structures, including fully bonded wings
  • Join a young, dynamic company where you're expected to be present, engaged, and collaborative - not hidden behind a screen
  • Fast-paced environment where your MRB experience is valued and critical - not the slow, methodical certification-focused pace
  • Face-to-face collaboration with operators, quality, and manufacturing on the production floor
  • Ramping production environment with real impact on aircraft certification and customer deliveries
  • Mission-driven team focused on sustainable aviation and environmental impact
