The MRB Design Engineer - Structures & Systems reviews defects, establishes root cause, provides an acceptable disposition to repair the discrepant condition using engineering principles and determines if corrective action is required.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- 1. Reviews discrepancy documents to fully understand non-conforming aircraft structure or systems affecting production or flight test aircraft. A priority will be given to engineers who possess skill sets in both structures and various systems.
- 2. Develops repair dispositions. Ensures that the proposed repair is structurally and functionally equivalent to the blueprint design and that it will not affect systems functionality.
- 3. Provides on site technical support, including interpretation of Engineering drawings, specifications, test procedures, and other systems related documents.
- 4. Assists in determining if discrepancies are Engineering related or workmanship issues and documents findings.
- 5. Initiates design and process changes to correct design errors, resolve complex, chronic manufacturing problems to improve produce-ability and cost of the aircraft.
Education, Work Experience, Certification and/or Licensure:
- 1. Bachelors of Science degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering; experience can be used in lieu of degree requirements.
- 2. 5+ years experience of MRB type design and/or repair of aircraft structures & systems.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- 1. Working knowledge of Aircraft structure and aircraft systems, materials, fasteners, production methods, corrosion prevention, production hand tools, non-destructive testing, and Standard Repair Methods (SRM).
- 2. Working knowledge of Mechanical Systems concepts and troubleshooting methods.
- 3. Working knowledge of CATIA V5, 2D engineering dwgs, parts lists, and aircraft effectivity.
- 4. Working knowledge of SAP preferred.
- 5. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suites (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and Lotus Notes.
- 6. Ability to write clear, concise, and easily understandable step-by-step rework, repair, and system troubleshooting instructions.
- 7. Ability to create rework/repair drawings using either, CATIA, PowerPoint, Word, or hand drawn sketches.
- 8. Ability to effectively communicate with all MRB team members and with all levels throughout any HACI organization.
- 9. Ability to work independently or within a team oriented environment.
- 10. Willingness to travel to the shop floor or adjacent buildings to investigate problems on the aircraft or in production areas. Ability to communicate well with shop floor personnel.
Physical Requirements:
- 1. Incumbents may be routinely exposed to equipment operational noise, heat-cold-dust, and/or aircraft equipment, parts, or fuel odors.
- 2. Incumbents may be required to stand, sit, squat, walk, bend, climb ladders, move, reach, or stretch for prolonged time periods with no restrictions, as required by job duties.
- 3. Work in a safe and professional manner while adhering to all regulatory requirements (FAA, OSHA, DOT, EPA, State, and Federal regulations, etc.).
- 4. Read, hear, speak, and see with no restrictions, as required by job duties.
- 5. Comprehend and adhere to management directions and/or safety instructions with no restrictions.
- 6. Effectively communicate in Business English language.
- 7. Pull, push, carry, lift, or move items up to 10 lbs. throughout the work shift without assistance, as required by job duties.
- 8. Pull, push, carry, lift or move materials/people/items/equipment weighing up to 50lbs or more during the work shift, with the use of Company provided “reach assistance technology ”or“ movement assist technology” (fork-lifts, pallet jacks, pulleys, dolly’s, robotics reach equipment, people movers etc.), as required by job duties.
