MRI Technologist - FOR HIRE

General Description of the Job Class

Perform a variety of complex, specialized, and technical tasks associated with operating high field strength magnets.

Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Screen patients for MR safety prior to procedures.
  2. Assist radiologists with protocoling and performing procedures. Start IVs, administer contrast media as directed and per protocol.
  3. Evaluate MR scans for technical quality, collate processed images, and label appropriately.
  4. Schedule patients and assist with clerical functions.
  5. Charge MR procedures and supplies in EHR.
  6. Load and operate power injectors for contrast media administration.
  7. Maintain accurate patient records.
  8. Provide orientation and training for new technologists and student technologists.
  9. Ensure the psychological and physical comfort of patients during MR procedures.
  10. Understand and utilize the Image Archival System.
  11. Perform complex tasks related to high field strength magnets to produce specific radiographic images.
  12. Position patients for MR scans using immobilization and protective equipment as needed.
  13. Coordinate scheduling and patient flow across multiple MR sites.
  14. Assist in the education and training of new physicians, interns, residents, and fellows, if applicable.
  15. Collaborate with radiologists and physicists to develop new protocols and imaging techniques.
  16. Support research efforts within Duke Health System by scanning and applying protocols, demonstrating proficiency in over 100 MR protocols, and teaching these protocols to others.
  17. Perform other related duties as needed.

DUHS offers career growth within Imaging services through a clinical ladder program with various steps and opportunities across the health system.

Required Qualifications

Education

  • Graduate of a program meeting eligibility for registry/certification or currently certified/registered.

Experience

  • Level I: Obtain ARRT or ARMRIT in MR within 18 months of employment.
  • Level II: Minimum of two years' MRI technologist experience.
  • Level III: At least 4 years' experience in the specialty modality.

Degrees, Licensure, and Certification

  • Certification in Radiography (R), Radiation Therapy (T), Nuclear Medicine (N), CNMT, ARDMS, or MR eligibility.
  • ARRT or ARMRIT in MR required within 18 months.
  • BLS certification.
