Job Description

Position: Machine Operator I

Reports to: Branch Manager

Pay: Starting Rate: $23.00
Top Rate: $25.19
24-month wage progression

Description

McWane Plant and Industrial (MPI) is seeking an experienced Machine Operator to join our Job Shop Fabrication and Machining operation. The Machine Operator is responsible for measuring, threading, adjusting flange fit, and facing the flange on a piece of ductile or steel pipe. The position requires the use of all types of manual machine tools such as lathes and threaders. Work also includes operation of machines and cranes to move pipe in and out of machining centers.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent desired
  • Previous experience with machinery is desired

Scope of Responsibilities

  • Ensure personal safety and the safety of team members.
  • Assist supervisors and managers in maintaining a safe and healthy work environment.
  • Wear appropriate PPE including fall protection, respiratory protection, hearing protection, foot, hand, head, and eye protection.
  • Maintain cleanliness of the work area and promote the McWane Way principles.
  • Follow all processes and procedures related to the Clear Water Safety Management Program and report deviations.
  • Identify fabrication requirements for each piece of pipe.
  • Place pipe in machine, center, and tighten for work. Machine tapered threads, verify measurements, and test flange fit.
  • Apply glue on pipe and flange, tighten flange onto pipe.
  • For Threaders: Remove pipe after threading. For Lathes: flush fit flange onto pipe.
  • Work primarily with pipes from 3” to 6” in diameter and lengths from 4 inches to 18 feet.
  • Meet quality and production targets.
  • Read tape measures and micrometers, understand machinery processes.
  • Maintain consistent attendance and punctuality.
  • Be a team player, willing to work across different machines, positive, enthusiastic, and helpful.

Work Environment

  • Stand, walk, and use hands for objects, tools, or controls.
  • Communicate verbally and in writing in English.
  • Occasionally reach, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
  • Lift up to 10 pounds regularly, up to 25 pounds frequently, and up to 50 pounds occasionally.
  • Meet physical requirements and wear PPE (steel-toed boots, safety glasses, hearing protection).
  • Work in dust, fumes, and outdoor conditions, including extended hours and overtime as needed.
  • Operate a forklift and obtain certification.
