Job Description
MPI Exeter seeks experienced Machine Operators for our Pipe Fabrication and Machining operation. Operators measure, thread, and adjust flange fit and facing on ductile or steel pipe. The role requires the use of all types of manual machine tools, including lathes and threaders, as well as operating machines and cranes to move pipe in and out of machining centers.
Scope of Responsibilities
- Ensure personal and team safety.
- Assist supervisors in maintaining a safe and healthy work environment.
- Wear appropriate PPE, including fall protection, respiratory, hearing, foot, hand, head, and eye protection.
- Keep the work area clean.
- Promote the McWane Way principles.
- Follow all processes and procedures of the Waterman Safety Management Program and report deviations.
- Identify fabrication requirements for each piece of pipe.
- Operate forklift to move pipe inside and outside the plant.
- Operate pipe cut‑off saw.
- Place and center pipe on the machine; tighten for work.
- Machine tapered threads into the pipe, verifying thread depth and taper.
- Test the flange to ensure accurate screwing onto the pipe.
- Apply glue to pipe and flange and use the machine to tighten the flange onto the pipe.
- For threaders, remove pipe from machine and move to next operation.
- For lathes, run the cutting tool across the surface of the flange face to flush‑fit the flange onto the pipe.
- Work with pipe and flanges primarily from 3” to 24” in diameter, 6 inches to 18 feet in length.
- Be proficient with quality and meet prescribed production output objectives.
- Paint and package finished products.
- Use basic math, read tape measure and micrometer.
- Understand machinery processes.
- Maintain consistent attendance and punctuality.
- Help and volunteer across various machines.
- Display a positive, hard‑working, and effective attitude.
- Perform any other duties as assigned.
Work Environment
- Regularly required to stand, walk, and use hands to handle or feel objects, tools, or controls.
- Require verbal and written communication in English.
- Occasionally reach with hands and arms, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
- Must lift and/or move up to 10 pounds regularly, 25 pounds frequently, and 50 pounds occasionally.
- Must meet physical requirements and wear PPE (steel‑toed boots, safety glasses, hearing protection).
- Must work in dust and fumes.
- Background requires overtime and extended hours based on customer and company demands.
- Work outside in all weather conditions and tolerate loud noises.
- Have some knowledge of industrial tools, uses, and maintenance.
- Requirements for vision include close, peripheral, depth perception, and color adjustment.
- Must obtain forklift certification.
Qualifications
- 1–3 years of experience in a similar role.
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Experience as a machine operator in manufacturing preferred.
- Computer skills.
Position Requirements
- Standing, walking, stooping, balancing, kneeling, reaching, and sitting are required.
- Must meet physical requirements and wear appropriate PPE.
- Work conditions include heat, cold, noise, vibration, dust, and fumes.
- Must operate forklift or overhead crane.

Additional Information
M-F 5:00 am – 1:30 pm
Hourly Rate: Starting $22.33; after 6 months $22.86; after 1 year $23.40
