Overview

ROLE: MOVEMENT POLITICS DIRECTOR
LOCATION: DALLAS, TX

The Movement Politics Director will lead Workers Defense electoral, base building and leadership development programming which activates our base of members and potential voters across Texas to build governing power for our communities. This position will supervise the Movement Politics team members.

The Role in Action

Local and Statewide Electoral Campaigns and Legislative Advocacy

  • Develop a multi-city, statewide electoral strategy that leads us to shifting the balance of power in Texas for workers and immigrant families. This includes developing plans, determining the size and universe of the field program and raising funds
  • Work with WDAF’s policy, organizing and communications teams to develop a strategy to integrate statewide electoral strategy with Workers Defense issue advocacy and year-round organizing strategy
  • Manage process for screening candidates, in coordination with the organizing and policy staff
  • Ensure the development and execution of training materials for all electoral staff and volunteers
  • Develop a plan to maintain relationships and engagement with voters throughout the year
  • Strategize with the Policy team to move people to action in support of our legislative priorities
  • Work closely across departments to develop and execute base building and leadership development plans
  • Foster, strengthen, and maintain partnerships with allied organizations across the state
  • Other duties as assigned
Outreach and Communications
  • Serve as liaison to partner organizations on statewide electoral campaigns; and
  • Collaborate with Communications Director and digital staff to manage electoral content on the C4 and affiliated organizations’ social media site and emails
Fundraising and Administration
  • Identify fundraising opportunities for electoral work and work with the Executive Director and Development Team to plan and manage fundraising necessary to execute electoral strategy
  • Assist development staff with grant writing and reporting on political activities;
  • Attend select fundraising events
  • Work with the Finance team to manage financial oversight of related funds
  • Perform required administrative tasks
  • Meet all reporting requirements
  • Manage the C4 database
  • Additional tasks as assigned
What You’ll Bring
  • Two to five years experience managing voter engagement activities in Texas
  • Ability to maintain attention to detail while managing multiple responsibilities;
  • Proven ability to work collaboratively, support and develop staff, interns, and volunteers, and contribute to the success of a team
  • Two to five years experience managing financial oversight and reporting requirements for 501(c)(4) and PAC authorized activities
  • Two to five years experience cultivating and interacting with individual donors for electoral work
  • Two to five years experience supervising electoral field staff
  • Extensive experience in public speaking, coalition-building, and writing
  • Effective political analysis skills
  • Extensive experience in political campaign planning, voter universe creation, budgeting, training, and management
  • Commitment to WD’s identity as a membership-based organization, and commitment to advancing racial, economic, and social justice
  • Strong communication skills and an ability to engage diverse audiences, including candidates, low-propensity voters, and volunteers
  • Strong interpersonal skills and an ability to build strong relationships with ally organizations and other stakeholders
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish required

What We Offer
  • Workers Defense has a salary scale that is based on experience. The starting salary for the position is $90,000.
  • A $1,000 annual bilingual language stipend (English-Spanish)
  • Employer-paid medical, vision, dental, and life insurance.
  • 2 weeks (9 days) vacation for the first year of employment and 3 weeks (14 days) for the second year of employment and after
  • 10 days of sick leave in a year
  • 5 Personal days per calendar year
  • Office closure during 4th of July week, Thanksgiving week and during Christmas in addition to paid holidays
  • Every other Friday off
  • Retirement plan with company match of 3% (after probationary period – 90 days from hire).
  • Parental leave of 12 weeks paid (after probationary period – 90 days from hire).
