Overview

ROLE: FINANCE MANAGER
LOCATION: AUSTIN, TX

The Finance Manager advances Workers Defense work for immigrant and worker justice by ensuring the timely and strategic oversight of the organization’s finances and other administrative structures.

THE ROLE IN ACTION
  • Work with the Operations Director and Executive Director to create annual operating budgets
  • Balance sheets, budget to actuals, profit and loss statements and other financial documents as needed by the Executive Director
  • Lead on creation of budgets for grants and produce budget reports as needed by the development team
  • Lead on payroll
    • On a timely manner run payroll for staff
      • Deduct union dues for those in the Workers Defense Union
      • Deduct retirement contributions for those enrolled in the program
      • Deduct any other amounts based on staff’s enrollment in benefits etc.
      • Conduct exit payouts for staff that include vacation and other necessary payments
      • Consolidate timesheets to ensure accurate count for staff for sick and vacation time for purposes of payroll
  • Lead on Accounts Payable
    • In a timely manner execute reimbursements for staff
    • In a timely manner remit payments for all invoices including invoices from vendors, insurances, recurring bills such as rent and utilities, etc.
  • Lead on our Financial Reporting
    • Consolidate card itemizations on a monthly basis with QuickBooks and financial reports
    • Reconcile the transactions for the banks, QuickBooks and finances: all income and expenses
    • Support Operations Director with the audit of the family of organizations. This includes providing necessary reports and participating in meetings with the Workers Defense Accountant and the auditors
  • Work with Operations Director to run annual employee W2 forms, 1099 forms,
    Franchise Tax form (WDAF only), IRS 5500 form and tracking of in-kind services
  • Deposit checks to bank accounts on a weekly basis
  • Complete administrative functions including evaluations, plans, timesheets, etc.
  • Support with grassroots fundraising efforts
  • Support cross-programmatic campaigns, actions, events and meetings
  • Any other activities that are necessary to carry out the work of Workers Defense
WHAT YOU’LL BRING
  • Ability to work irregular hours (evenings and weekends)
  • Basic computer literacy (PowerPoint, Microsoft Word, Google Docs, Slack & Internet)
  • Ability to work proficiently on QuickBooks online
  • At least two years of experience with accounting including accounts payable
  • At least two years of experience managing or supporting the auditing process
  • Ability to work independently and juggle multiple responsibilities
  • Ability and flexibility for some travel, primarily instate
  • Ability to do in person work; support with member events and fundraising events
  • Ability to drive and operate a vehicle. Will need to transport themselves to meetings etc.

WHAT WE OFFER
  • Workers Defense has a salary scale that is based on experience. The starting salary for the position is $64,000.
  • Every other Friday off.
  • Employer-paid medical, vision, dental, and life insurance.
  • Paid leave consists of 9 days vacation, 10 days sick, and 5 days personal.
  • Paid holidays in addition to office closures the week of fourth of July, the week of Thanksgiving and December 23rd through 31st.
  • Retirement plan with company match of 3% (as per our Personnel Policies Manual and after probationary period – 90 days from hire).
  • Parental leave of 12 weeks paid (after probationary period – 90 days from hire).
