Motor Vehicle Technician I perform skilled motor vehicle operations. Operates all types of motor vehicles in transporting, supplies, and other cargo on short or long-distance hauls if needed. Works under general supervision in accordance with rules, regulations, and schedules. May be assigned other duties as needed. This position is hired by and works under the direct supervision of the Department Directors. Training Requirements for drivers include CPR, Abuse and Neglect and random drug testing, Denton State Supported Living Center driving permit, Class C driver's license required. Class B and/or CDL license with passenger endorsement preferred. Driver abides by all DSSLC policies and procedures. This position requires moderate supervision (supervisory contact at least daily) and frequent contact with the public in person. Individual must be able to operate a vehicle for the expedition of workflow for the department. Individual must have a valid Texas Driver's License. This position will also be responsible for facility personal driving records and must have computer experience. Operates all types of motor vehicles in transporting, supplies, and other cargo on short or long-distance hauls if needed. Performs highly complex inventory and warehouse work. Work involves coordinating warehouse operations at state facilities, maintaining security of state property and warehouse stock inventory. Duties include conducting inventories on warehouse stock, monitoring stock levels for loss prevention and adequate supply to facilities and ensure warehouse operations are in compliance with established procedures. Coordinates and trains staff as needed. Follow safety protocols and proper use of equipment. Works under limited supervision with considerable latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment. Will work in varying temperatures and weather environments. Performs other duties as assigned by supervisor.

Essential Job Functions (EJFs)

Attends work on a regular and predictable schedule in accordance with agency leave policy and performs other duties as assigned. Coordinates with the supervisor to complete daily tasks, assignments, reviewing, and training in the areas of stock handling, receiving, issuing, rotating stock, loading and unloading of trucks in order to ensure necessary services and supplies are properly delivered to individuals and employees and the states assets are secure at all times. Coordinates with the supervisor and reviews the inventory and stock control records (receipts & issues) and warehouse reports in order to provide current and accurate information for inventory and warehouse operations. Checks and gets approval for requests for replenishing stock. Ensures an efficient system of warehouse and control, and recommends improvements as needed for internal operations. Assist with quality assurance and plans for arrangement and rotation of stock to prevent spoilage, deterioration, and obsolescence to ensure quality and availability of warehouse stock. Conducts performance evaluations of assigned staff in order to give employees timely feedback on their performance. Operates and uses material handling equipment including a forklift and pallet jack. Safe handling of materials using forklifts. Enters receipts into the HHSAS system; coordinates with other staff to receive accurately and timely. Coordinates with staff in the use of MIMS in order to provide accurate and timely issuance of warehouse stock. Reviews records and files in warehouse office in order to provide current and accurate information regarding purchase orders, transfers, stock issues, and other warehouse files. Filing to be done on a daily basis. Keeps supervisor advised on inventory and any warehousing problems. Advises department staff on internal operating instructions and assists staff with special problems in order to meet the goals and objectives of the department. Provides oversight to other staff in the areas of new item setup, stock minimums and maximum levels, and bin locations. Will work in varying temperatures and weather environments.

Other duties as assigned include but are not limited to actively participating and/or serving in a supporting role to meet the agency’s obligations for disaster response and/or recovery or Continuity of Operations (COOP) activation. Such participation may require an alternate shift pattern assignment and/or location.

Knowledge, Skills And Abilities (KSAs)

Knowledge of warehousing methods and procedures, of inventory and stock control record keeping, of automated inventory-control systems, of reporting procedures, and of departmental policies and procedures. Ability to work with others in the areas of shipping, receiving, issuing and inventory control. Ability to review warehouse operations for compliance with established procedures and to transfer stock from one location to another. Knowledge of applicable rules, regulations, policies, functions, and operations. Skill in the use of computer and related equipment, including the use of Microsoft Office Suite or equivalent to include word processing and email. Skill in the use of a calculator. Skill in communicating effectively both verbally and in writing. Ability to prepare reports and maintain records. Ability to coordinate with other staff, departments, officials, agencies, organizations, and the public. Ability to make arithmetic computations. Knowledge of safe motor vehicle operations and preventative maintenance. Knowledge of safe cargo loading/unloading, storage, and securing methods. Ability to safely operate vehicles with limited visibility utilizing mirrors, spotters or other safe backing techniques as required by policy/law. Knowledge of operations/instruction manuals, and safety materials. Knowledge of all Texas Department of Transportation (TXDOT) driving rules and regulations. Skill and safety in operating tractor-trailer combination and medium duty vehicle(s). Good physical stamina, hand to eye coordination, and reflexes. Ability to use lift gates, pallet jacks, forklifts or other loading/unloading equipment. Ability to possess and maintain appropriate certification for forklift or other equipment required by the position. Ability to use proper lifting techniques. Ability to lift and carry 40-50 pounds. Ability to count, read, follow, comprehend, and interpret documents such as maps, safety rules, operating procedures, instructions and manuals. Ability to follow, give, record, document written/verbal directions, instructions, communications, schedules, reports, documents, records, to and from subordinates and other program related customers. Ability to maintain accurate records and write effectively and legibly. Ability to work in all weather conditions.

Registrations, Licensure Requirements Or Certifications

Valid Texas CDL driver’s license is required. The CDL is also required to be checked yearly for any violations or suspensions and state permitted certification. Must complete driver's test and driver's education course through ILearn. Eligible driving record required based on HHSC Fleet Management policy.

Initial Screening Criteria

Graduation from a standard high school or GED is required. Six months work experience in a warehouse setting material handling - supporting, ordering, stocking, issuing, and delivering is required. Six months work experience operating equipment and working with others in the use of warehouse material handling equipment such as forklifts, pallet jacks, hand trucks and a lift gate on a bobtail truck is preferred. Six months work experience in the use of warehouse inventory control systems, automated purchasing systems and other office equipment is preferred.

Additional Information

Applicants must pass a fingerprint criminal background check, pre-employment drug screen, and registry checks including the Client Abuse/Neglect Reporting System (CANRS), Nurse Aide, Medication Aide and Employee Misconduct and HHS List of Excluded Individuals/Entities (LEIE).

All State Supported Living Center employees are subject to Random drug testing.

Flexibility in work hours may be required for this position. The position may be required to work overtime and/or extended hours. Must be willing to work weekends and holidays.
