Job Summary

W/WW Operations & Construction and W/WW Operations & Maintenance
Under general supervision, this position is responsible for highly skilled work in the operation of a wide variety of heavy and complex motor equipment used in construction and maintenance work.

Responsibilities

Operates heavy construction and maintenance equipment (backhoe, boring machine, excavator, bull dozer, skid steer) in the construction of water/wastewater systems, lift stations, water line repairs, emergency sewer cave‑in repairs, resaca maintenance operations and sludge site maintenance. Utilizes other equipment such as front‑end loaders, steel rollers, high velocity water vacuums, vacuum trucks, and pay loaders. Performs inspection, light maintenance and service of the heavy equipment used in emergency repairs, new service connections, new line extensions, resaca maintenance operations and other related work. Employees assisting wastewater treatment plant operations will be required to haul roll-off boxes of sludge weighing 15 tons or more from wastewater treatment plants to dedicated sludge disposal site for unloading and spreading of sludge. Employees assisting wastewater treatment plant operations will provide support to belt press operator in positioning roll-off boxes to receive dewatered sludge and do general housekeeping around sludge loading areas. Employees assisting wastewater treatment plant operations will be required to transport dewatered bio-solids with roll back truck in roll-off boxes, use a two-meter belt filter press to dewater bio-solids and use farm equipment to maintain the dedicated land disposal site (surface spread bio-solids and disc into soil, cut grass and repair berms). Employees assisting Resaca Maintenance and Raw water Supply operations will be required to operate dump trucks to haul dredge material from the dredge dewatering site to the dredge storage and/or disposal site. Employees assisting water treatment plant operations will be required to operate dump trucks to haul water plant sludge material from the dewatering basin site to the designated storage area and/or disposal site. May be required to work other than the regular daytime schedule due to the nature of the work. Completes other job duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Knowledge of the general practices applied in the care and safe operation of a wide variety of heavy construction and maintenance equipment. Knowledge of the different soil conditions to determine the use of all trench safety requirements. Knowledge of the laws and regulations pertaining to the operation of equipment. Knowledge of Microsoft Office programs. Skill in the safe operation of heavy equipment. Effective and concise oral and written communication skills in English. Ability to safely operate heavy motor equipment under all types of weather conditions. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external stakeholders. Ability to perform manual labor related to the operation of motorized equipment. Ability to perform manual tasks involving physical strength and endurance under variable weather conditions.

Education & Experience Requirements

Motor Equipment Operator
High School Diploma or GED or U.S. Equivalency report required and two (2) years of experience in the operation of heavy equipment.

MEO /Transporter
High School Diploma or GED or U.S. Equivalency report required and three (3) years of experience in the operation of heavy equipment.

Senior Motor Equipment Operator
High School Diploma or GED or U.S. Equivalency report required and four (4) years of experience in the operation of heavy equipment.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations

Requires a valid Texas Commercial Driver License Class A or Class B as required by the Texas Department of Public Safety for commercial motor vehicles and a safe driving record as measured by company policy. Class A endorsement is required for employees assigned to operate tractor trailer attachment equipment such as lowboy trailer and tanker trailer. Class B endorsement is required for employees assigned to operate single vehicle tri-axle dump trucks and roll back trucks. Employees assigned to the dedicated land disposal site must obtain a “D” license in wastewater treatment issued by the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality ( TCEQ ) within two (2) years of obtaining the position.

Ability to work under adverse ambient conditions including, but not limited to, confined spaces (i.e. manholes, vaults, water, mud, sewage, wind, and dust). Employees assigned to the W/WW Operations Division must pass the annual fit test requirements for use of a self-contained breathing apparatus and/or a respirator.
