Job description

Under general supervision, this position operates a variety of construction and maintenance equipment such as a pavement grinder, chip spreader, bituminous paver, concrete mobile, bulldozer, and road grader. Performs related duties as required.(Illustrative only. Any one position may not require all of the listed KSAs nor do the listed examples include all the KSAs which may be required.)

Knowledge of:
Equipment maintenance procedures.
Safety policies and procedures, e.g., Employee Safety Instruction Manual and applicable agency requirements.
Safe and unsafe surrounding conditions (landscape, people, utilities) for operating equipment.
Safe equipment operation.
Equipment capabilities.
Proper tool usage and which tool is correct for a specific purpose.
Construction terms.

Skill to:
Read blueprints.
Operate a truck and trailer to transport motorized equipment.
Estimate height, weight, length, and depth as required for operating equipment (digging holes, driving wide and tall equipment or loads).

Ability to:
Follow oral and written directions.
Visually inspect equipment and identify possible problems.
Make decisions in absence of supervisor.
Listen and learn about job.
Explain work procedures to supervisors or laborers.

The minimum required education and experience is listed below for informational purposes only. This is a TRANSFER posting:

Each applicant must have one year of experience as a Motor Equipment Operator 1, WWC Equipment Specialist, Auto Mechanic, Automotive Mechanic Crew Chief, or an Automotive Street Cleaning Equipment Operator with the City of Cincinnati.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS

Must have a valid Commercial Class A Driver's License. Some positions require an Commercial Class A Driver's License with Tanker Endorsement. For positions that require the Tanker Endorsement, it must be obtain prior to the end of the probationary period.

MILITARY EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE EVALUATION

Military education and experience may be substituted for college level course work at the lower and upper division baccalaureate and graduate levels and apprenticeship training at the vocational certificate level on a case by case basis based on the American Council on Education (ACE) Military Guide recommendations.

TRANSFER REQUIREMENTS

The position may be filled based on Civil Service Rule 11, Section 1, which states: An employee in the classified service who has served the required probationary period in his current classification may be transferred from a position in one department to a position in the same or similar class and same pay (based on top salary steps) for which they are qualified, in another department, with the consent of the employee to be transferred and the director of the department to which the employee is to be transferred, with the approval of the Civil Service Commission.

An additional probationary period is not given in such interdepartmental transfers. To be eligible for a transfer, you must meet the qualifications of the position, and the top salary step of your position must equal the top salary step of the position into which you wish to transfer.

Twelve-Month Rule:Employees who accept a position through lateral transfer or demotion shall not be permitted to transfer or voluntarily demote to another City position for at least 12 months.

Required Service Rating:No employee who has received "does not meet expectation" on two of the last three performance evaluations may transfer.
