Job summary

The Commonwealth of Massachusetts seeks a driver to operate various motor vehicles for public works. Duties include transporting materials, performing manual labor, and ensuring vehicle safety. Candidates must have a Massachusetts license, a year of experience, and be Boston residents.

Job description

Operates light and medium automotive and other motor equipment not requiring special skills, under supervision of higher-ranked job titles. Operates passenger cars, station wagons, half-ton pick-up trucks, three-quarter ton panel trucks, or other trucks requiring a Class II License by the Massachusetts Registry of Motor Vehicles.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  1. Operation of light and medium vehicles as described above.
  2. Use of various motorized grass and weed cutters.
  3. Loading and unloading trucks; transporting people, materials, and equipment to and from work sites; performing manual labor when not operating vehicles.
  4. Empties trash dumpsters daily.
  5. Mixing, loading, and delivering ice and snow-melting materials.
  6. Ensuring vehicle and its components are in acceptable operating condition for safe operation.
  7. Following work practices and operating procedures to comply with health and safety standards; maintaining work area, equipment, and tools in a clean, neat, safe, and secure manner.
  8. Responding to and handling Constituent Relationship Management (CRM) cases.
  9. Using mobile technology to communicate with supervisors and inspectors regarding CRM cases.
  10. Supporting other Public Works Divisions as needed.
  11. Performing related work as required.
  12. Working any emergency shifts as directed by the Chief of Streets or designee.

Minimum requirements:

  • Must have and maintain a current Massachusetts driver’s license.
  • Must have at least 1 year of experience in a related field.
  • Must be a Boston resident.
