Job summary

Gentis Solutions is seeking a Senior Design Engineer to provide technical leadership in the design, development, and sustainment of fractional horsepower electric motors and motion control products. The role is fully onsite in Gallipolis, Ohio, with a base salary of $110,000–$125,000 plus a bonus opportunity.

The ideal candidate will have 10+ years in electric motor design or rotating machinery, strong CAD skills (Inventor or Fusion), and a track record of delivering products from concept

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering required.
  • 10+ years of engineering experience with strong focus on electric motor design or rotating machinery.
  • Experience designing and developing fractional horsepower motors (BLDC, PMDC, AC).
  • Experience taking products from concept through production release.

Responsibilities

  • Design and develop fractional horsepower electric motors from concept through production release.
  • Create and review CAD models, drawings, specifications, and BOMs; apply magnetics, thermal, mechanical, and reliability principles.
  • Perform electromagnetic, thermal, and mechanical analyses to optimize motor performance.
  • Partner with Manufacturing Engineering to ensure manufacturability and cost-effectiveness; drive continuous improvement.

Senior Design Engineer – Electric Motors & Motion Systems

Gallipolis, Ohio (Fully Onsite)

$110,000 – $125,000 Base Salary + Bonus Opportunity

We are seeking a Senior Design Engineer to provide technical leadership in the design, development, and sustainment of fractional horsepower electric motors and motion control products. This is a highly visible, hands‑on engineering role focused on new product development, manufacturing support, continuous improvement, and mentoring engineers across both existing and next‑generation product platforms.

This opportunity is ideal for an experienced engineer with deep expertise in electric motor design, rotating machinery, and product development, who enjoys taking products from concept through production while collaborating across engineering, manufacturing, quality, and commercial teams.

What You'll Do
Product Design & Development
  • Design and develop fractional horsepower electric motors, including BLDC, PMDC, stepper, and AC motors, from concept through production release.
  • Create and review engineering calculations, CAD models, drawings, specifications, and bills of material.
  • Apply engineering principles related to magnetics, thermal performance, mechanical integrity, materials, and reliability.
  • Lead technical decision‑making and drive design improvements across product lines.
Analysis, Testing & Validation
  • Perform and interpret electromagnetic, thermal, and mechanical analyses to optimize motor performance and durability.
  • Support prototype builds, testing, validation, and qualification activities.
  • Analyze test results and implement corrective design enhancements.
  • Assist with life testing, reliability testing, and compliance-related activities.
Manufacturing & Sustaining Engineering Support
  • Partner with Manufacturing Engineering to ensure products are manufacturable, repeatable, and cost‑effective.
  • Provide engineering support for production challenges, root cause investigations, and corrective actions.
  • Drive continuous improvement and value engineering initiatives to improve performance and reduce cost.
Cross-Functional Leadership
  • Collaborate with Quality, Supply Chain, Sales, and Operations teams to support product launches and resolve technical challenges.
  • Evaluate customer requirements and provide technical feasibility assessments and solutions.
  • Mentor and coach junior and mid-level engineers while promoting engineering best practices.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related engineering discipline.
  • 10+ years of engineering experience with a strong focus on electric motor design or rotating machinery.
  • Experience designing and developing fractional horsepower electric motors, including:
  • Brushless DC (BLDC)
  • Permanent Magnet DC (PMDC)
  • AC Motors
  • Proven experience taking products from concept through production release.
  • Strong understanding of:
  • Motor windings
  • Magnets
  • Laminations
  • Bearings
  • Insulation systems
  • Experience generating and reviewing CAD models, engineering drawings, specifications, calculations, and BOMs.
  • Experience with Autodesk tools such as Inventor or Fusion.
  • Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem‑solving abilities.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master's degree in Engineering.
  • Familiarity with industry standards such as UL, IEC, NEMA, CE, and RoHS.
  • Experience with motor drives, controls, or integrated motion systems.
  • Background supporting products within industrial, medical device, robotics, automation, or related industries.
  • Experience leading value engineering and cost reduction initiatives.
  • Customer‑facing technical support or product launch experience.
