Job summary

Flatiron Dragados JV seeks an experienced MOT Superintendent to lead field teams on a major 9-mile I-64 civil project in Virginia. You will plan methods, coordinate with crews and utilities, manage equipment and materials, and drive schedule adherence while enforcing safety programs.

You will collaborate with internal teams and subcontractors to ensure contract compliance and efficient production, with emphasis on risk mitigation and detailed daily documentation.

Qualifications

  • 8+ years of heavy civil construction experience.
  • 5+ years construction management experience.
  • Bachelor's degree preferred.
  • Safety Trained Supervisor (STS) certification preferred.
  • Valid Driver’s License.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Advanced knowledge of construction site equipment operation and maintenance.
  • Advanced knowledge of construction site safety protocols.

Responsibilities

  • Plan work methods, materials, equipment needs and work schedule for assigned project work; review and update weekly schedule.
  • Review project specifications; coordinate with field teams and utility companies to identify hazards.
  • Coordinate with equipment teams and vendors to ensure proper equipment and materials within budget and schedule.
  • Forecast schedules and provide technical or scheduling recommendations to mitigate issues.
  • Provide input to identify and resolve risks (construction methods, materials, safety, scheduling).
  • Promote strict adherence to safety and process controls; identify training needs.
  • Supervise sub-contractor production and workforce; adjust schedules or methods as needed.

Job description

As a MOT Superintendent, you will play a pivotal role in driving the success of our construction projects. Yo ur expertise in scheduling, coordinating, and supervising production and workforce will ensure that every task is executed seamlessly and efficiently.

The Hampton Roads Connector Partners JV (HRCP) consisting of Flatiron, Dragados USA and VINCI has been selected to construct the $3.3BN Design Build project –the largest civil construction contract ever awarded by the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT).

The project scope across a 9 mile section of the I-64 will include: a new 3.5-mile bridge-tunnel crossing that will accommodate a total of 8 lanes of capacity across the water, replacement of the existing marine approach bridges and the addition of a third lane on I-64 in each direction. The twin 45’ diameter 1.5-mile tunnels will be bored by TBM, creating the second largest TBM tunnel opening for a TBM in North America

Collaborate with industry experts and committed teams to ensure project compliance with contract drawings and specifications.

What You Will Be Doing
  • Plan work methods, materials, equipment needs and work schedule for assigned project work. Reviews daily work schedule with direct reports and updates weekly schedule from project feedback.
  • Review and understands the project specifications to support job set up activities. Works with work crews, field engineers and local utility companies to identify hazardous areas on job site.
  • Coordinate with internal equipment team and external vendors to ensure that project work is equipped with appropriate equipment and material quantities to complete production within assigned budget and schedule.
  • Forecast the work schedule to identify possible issues and provides technical or scheduling recommendations to mitigate production issues.
  • Provide technical input to identify and resolve project risks including construction methods, work plan and material requirements, safety and schedule activities. Documents daily activities and meeting notes using Company approved document methods.
  • Support and promotes strict adherence to safety and process controls regarding operating equipment, worksite safety and documentation requirements. Responsibility includes recommending training needs identified on jobsite.
  • Supervise sub-contractor production and workforce regarding assigned project work. Recommends work schedule or work method adjustments regarding sub-contractor activities.
What We Are Looking For
  • 8+ years of heavy civil construction experience required.
  • 5+ years construction management experience required.
  • Bachelor's Degree a plus.
  • Safety Trained Supervisor (STS) certification preferred.
  • Valid Driver’s License.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills required.
  • Advanced knowledge of construction site equipment operation and maintenance requirements.
  • Advanced knowledge of construction site safety protocols and proven ability to enforce project safety programs.
  • Knowledge and understanding of local union or prevailing wage rules, if applicable.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret standards and contract specific plans and specifications.
  • Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistics, and fundamentals geometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
