MOSDOH - Assistant Dean of Clinical Affairs

Description
A.T. Still University's Missouri School of Dentistry & Oral Health (ATSU-MOSDOH) is seeking a full-time exempt Assistant Dean of Clinical Affairs at the St. Louis, Missouri campus. This position reports to the Dean of MOSDOH.

Purpose:

Clinical Education: Works in conjunction with the Dean, Associate Dean for Academic Affairs, to help the course director for the Person-Centered Course facilitate the coordination of educational and operational issues in the clinic. Is responsible for ensuring that directives from the Curriculum Committee are implemented in the clinic. Works directly with the Director for Clinical Faculty to oversee all clinic faculty and educational support staff and is responsible for the annual performance evaluations of all full-time faculty and part-time faculty.

Community Partnerships: To oversee the development of appropriate external partnerships for the purpose of furthering the clinical education, service, and research goals of MOSDOH. Support and participate in a collegial environment among students, faculty, and staff.

Clinical Operations: Responsibilities include diagnosis and treatment of patients, assisting in the education of patients with matters concerning dental health as well as the overall health of the patient, ensuring the quality of care and productivity standards, developing, implementing, and overseeing all clinical policies, procedures, and activities for MOSDOH on-site dental clinic while fostering a collegial atmosphere between faculty, staff, and students.

Job Responsibilities:
  • Participate in the Faculty Development activities.
  • As needed, serve as a liaison of the Curriculum Committee, Academic Progress Committee, Admissions Committee, and other University and school committees as assigned by the Dean.
  • Assist in developing and implementing IEP's/remediation plans as needed.
  • Assist with the implementation of the appropriate Clinic Management System.
  • Oversee the Clinical Assessment System (CAS)
  • Support the administration in the development, implementation and evaluation of the school's educational, patient care and public health activities and programs.
  • Directly responsible for the implementation of the ICSP for external clinical sites and student community service projects.
  • Works with the MOSDOH research director to oversee the development of research activities and ensure that those research activities at MOSDOH adhere to the mission of the school, follow established MOSDOH protocol for review and approval and are done in accordance with IRB and other University policies, provide a benefit to the school and are done in collaboration with appropriate outside entities.
  • Works with the ATSU Grants department to identify and develop external grant opportunities.
  • Coordinate special external projects under the direction of the Dean.
  • Coordinate the clinical curriculum for on-site and external sites.
  • Coordinate and assist in board patient screening, clinical mock board (WREB) and board (WREB) preparations.
  • Participate in the Instrument Committee.
  • Collaborate with the Director of Dental Operations, Dental Manager (Affinia Healthcare) and Assistant Vice President of Operations
  • Dental Services (Affinia Healthcare) regarding supervision of support staff.
  • Chair the Clinical Operations Policy and Compliance Committee (COPC).
  • Chair the Clinical Activities Committee (CAC).
Requirements
  • Doctoral dental degree (DMD, DDS) required.
  • Educational methodology and teaching background.
  • At least 10 years of experience in any of the aspects of institutional clinic management.
  • Experience in clinical practice, clinical and didactic teaching, public health.
  • Leadership experience.
  • Strategic planning, financial management, supervisory experience.
  • Knowledge and expertise in clinical dentistry.
  • Ability to communicate effectively to individuals and groups, both writing and orally.
  • Ability to interact in an effective manner with individuals of diverse backgrounds including students, staff, faculty, administration, and external stakeholders.
  • Ability to effectively handle detail-oriented assignments and maintain confidentiality.
  • Ability to effectively deal with multiple responsibilities in an academic environment.
  • The ability to lead, by example, be impartial and just, create opportunities for professional development and empowerment, and be able to set clear goals and objectives.
